Warning: Controversial Darkside Information ahead, read at your own risk. I was ordering a new front tire for my 93 daily driver Redwing and saw that they offer it in the stock front Valkyrie size now instead of a 130/90-17 like many of us have used. I'm fine with the 130, it's firmly planted. Until the NEXT tire, that is. For what it's worth, the 93's Activ did NOT wear out yet, at 34,000+ miles. I'm simply replacing it because the rear ATT WORE OUT in the center, same mileage (45 psi). The Activ on front did feather and roars in the curves, but it would still pass inspection, by far. https://www.cyclegear.com/tires/michelin-pilot-activ-rear-tirehttp://www.bikebandit.com/tires-tubes/motorcycle-tires/michelin-pilot-activ-motorcycle-tireHere's the one on my Valk IS with about 15,000 miles on it. This picture shows an E3 mounted and the Activ reversed to match the tread siping direction.

If you are referring to the 150/70, it's always been available . I've been using them for 20k now. The 150/80 is the stock size.

I think the Pilot Activ is going to be my tire . I'm really liking it. The first one I put on reversed, my second I didn't. Can't tell any difference really. But I don't get much rain here though.

Bumping my own thread....been almost a year since that "stock size revelation", heh, heh.
Found a 1/4" gouge on the sidewall / tread edge yesterday (post-wash) while checking pressure so I'm ordering a new Pilot Activ in the 150/70-17 size. It just passed inspection last month and I'm sure there's at least another 10k miles of tread left; it is feathering a bit on the edges.
I've been happy with the 130/90-17 size for these two years and 21,600 miles, but I'm not going to chance having this gouge cause a blowout. It may even be the reason I found 32 psi in the tire yesterday (I run it at 42 psi). It does lose pressure but it's never been more that 3 or 4 psi low after sitting a few weeks, which is typical. It hasn't had a good long trip in a couple months but I like to have it ready.
Hoping I like the "closer to stock" size!

I had to read it a couple times. But I think he might have been referring to his Austone. I only got 18k out of my Michelin. But I was pretty happy with that. I like the feel of it and it's a good bargain and sticks good. I don't get much rain, but when we do it's usually big. Only time it slipped was going around a mountain corner at 50 mph. Snow and rain over the pass out of Durango. Hit a big pothole in the corner and it slid probably 6-8 ". But it felt like a foot at the time.

I run the 130 reversed and will be replacing it with the same this off season. It currently has 19k on it and unless something in the way this year has gone changes, it should make it to snow fall. (No time for anything other than short rides the rest of the year, I overbooked myself.) I find it sticks well in all but the white, wet and heavy crap at about 6000 ft and actually did okay in those conditions. Of course, I wasn't attempting to set speed records in the white $#!t either.

You know, that is one of the great things about this club. I would have never thought about my tire combo, if not for this club.

34,000 miles on a front tire!!!!!!!!
Honestly? Oh yes, The Activ went 34,000 miles on the FRONT of my 93 Goldwing, yes indeed. But all I do with that bike is pound up and down the highway to work and back, 130 miles a day. Straight, flat roads except for the odd on ramp and off ramp and occasional country road like last weekend's ride to the beach. And yes, the Austone also went 34k and only the center was shot (42 psi). I could have put more miles on that front tire, but why go down for maintenance twice? The front Activ on the Valk is right at 21,600 and still looks pretty good. Like I said, I wouldn't be replacing it for a while except for the gouge. I'm getting excited to try the 150/70-17, lol. New rubber is always a treat.
