I never thought of it before. After a quick look, I "think" it may be chrome plated steel. I don't believe it is stainless steel.

If it is stainless it won't hold a magnet.

ferritic stainless steel (typically 400 series) is magnetic. 300 series SS are not magnetic.

I have a small stainless workbench top that is stainless and the magnet stuck to it also. I've never seen any surface rust on any windshield trim as I have on other chrome pieces. Any other way to verify ?

Chromed steel. But Honda's chrome is notoriously excellent showing little signs of age, unlike many aftermarket pieces.

Type 430—decorative, e.g., for automotive trim; ferritic. Good formability, but with reduced temperature and corrosion resistance.
I Googled "ferritic stainless steel" and came up with a Wikipedia article that includes a chart with the above for Type 430 stainless....
....... see rattlebars gave an answer while I was typing but I will post this anyway....

Hey, some guys were talking about your site earlier, wondering if you were still around. Do you still have Nightmare? And thanks for the info. I have one piece of trim that it looks like someone used a light abrasive on and I was hoping for polished stainless. The scratches are super fine but they are there.
