This month we are meeting at Po Melvin's in Irving with our new President, Sidecar.   cooldude

We have been there before and they always appreciate our business and took care of us with free appetizers.   Smiley  Their food is good and you won't leave hungry.

Po Melvin's changed the floor plan and they now have a semi private room that we have reserved.  Hope to see you all there on Thursday, August 11.  Post here if you plan to attend so we can get a headcount.  uglystupid2

Date: Thursday, August 11
Time: I have the room reserved starting at 6:30
Place: Po Melvin's   4070 Belt Line Road, Irving, TX 75038 (972) 255-3919 www.pomelvins.com

Thanks,  Baron. This has been a real hit in the past with great food, great treatment by the staff and has brought folks from both sides of the metro mess as well as the middle. Come out and hear the tale of Baron's short gymnastic career and lessons learned. He will not be performing in Rio.

+1.  I'm pretty sure that I missed the last one there and I'm curious about President Sidecar's allusion to some big announcement.   coolsmiley

Not sure if anyone remembers the time Walt finished  cooldude the the "1 pound" chicken fried steak at Po Melvin's?  I found this article from the Texas Highway magazine which made me think it.

Po Melvin's

Known for such Cajun specialties as spicy Louisiana fried pies, oyster and catfish po’ boys, and New Orleans-style red beans and rice, Melvin’s has developed a fan base for its crunchy chicken-fried steaks. Served with cream gravy and a choice of three vegetables (including mashed potatoes, navy beans, green beans, black-eyed peas, Cajun rice, collard greens, fried okra, corn, stewed cabbage, and sweet potatoes), this CFS is a winner.

Anyone riding?  I think I might melt in traffic with 104 degree temps.

Les, sorry you weren't up for it. You were missed. Hope you get some rest and strength.

Thought I would give folks a little recap.

Had a lively group tonight. Great food. Baron's connection saw to it that we got several plates of appetizers and then we moved right into food overdrive. No one left hungry.

Valkpilot gave a good talk on hot weather riding, its effects and how to best mitigate the heat and avoid medical issues (that can also lead to crash issues).

We all got a first hand report from Baron on his highway gymnastics and recovery, both physical and motorcycle. They are both on the mend and should be back on the road before long. He is already back to mowing the yard, but I couldn't get him to come do ours.

We had some special guests, but the one who wins the longest drive/ride award has to be our surprise visitor from Indiana.  Yep, godfire was in the house. Great to see you, Jim. We didn't like it when you left the first time and hate to lose you from Texas permanently, but you'll always have friends here.

And, last, but not least by a long shot, I'm happy to announce that Disco has agreed to serve as VP this year and help us keep the rubber on the roads, however curvy they might be.

Next official ride is the August 27 ride to Vaughan's for catfish and backroads with Rainmaker and Speedo. See Rainmaker's thread for details.

And, save the date (and evening) for September 10 for a special event ride/meeting/eating. More details to come.
