2014 Valkyrie 1800

Seminole, Florida

« on: August 09, 2016, 02:37:27 AM »

I'm curious why I see so many 1800 Valkyries for sale. Most have less than 3k on the clock. The only comments I find from owners are positive, then why are so many for sale just a few short months after buying this bike? Anyone here input from those selling?

I have also seen some fairly new ones for sale and had the same question. Wish someone who sold would pipe up with the reasons. Heck at 12k miles on mine I plan on putting on alot more before I could answer why I would sell it.

I thought I might like to buy a 2000 Tourer with 18000 miles.
Checked it over and went for a 20 minute test ride.
Came back and told the owner I'll think on it.
Went home (in the car) and decided I liked the way
The 1800 handled plus so far no maintenance issues
other than normal oil and shaft drive upkeep.
I liked my 2001 Interstate and like the looks of the older Valkyries.
Now that I have had my 2014 for over a year I think it is a great motorcycle.
I don't do any long distance rides anymore due to an aching body.
I read posts on the VRCC every day with my second mug of coffee
but don't post very often.
As for HD motorcycles to each his own.

I would have sold my 2014 if I hadn't kept my 97... I'm still
not done fiddling with the comfort level of the 2014. I just
can't see giving up on a stripped down Goldwing, though, wow,
what a ride!

Same reason I see a lot of Dodge Challengers and Chevy Camaros for sale? People buy the new shiny and don't completely fall in longterm love with it?

New model vehicles come out and people jump on it immediately. The honeymoon is quickly over and that is when you find out if you really love your new ride. In some cases, people start wondering if they can do better and then act on it.

Get a new Valk but wish you could hold a bit more luggage and don't want to buy something aftermarket? F6B time. Miss the V-Twin torque and rumble sound? M109R or Interstate time? The decision is so personal that we will never really know if there is an absolute reason. Maybe if there was a mechanical fault or super recall we could blame that, but so far we've got nothing but fun little modifications and growing miles.

Interesting theory. But this bike is so easy to ride respectably -- or not. I find I can putt around at 35 mph so much easier in this bike than any other. On the other hand, I can also see how this bike would scare the bujeezis out of you if you crack it just a little too aggressively. Me, I can easily see myself growing old with this ride.

I do not think there's many for sale , besides , always happens when something new appears  , some gotta have it , then realize  their emotions got the best of them , many claim they have no time to ride , or just don't care to make the time  .

Yep, the modern world: short attention spans and people with money looking for fulfillment.

It's not just Valks: I was at my local motorcycle service shop having the new Michelins put on yesterday.  They sell scooters and used bikes, no new bikes, and they had a used FZ-07 for sale with 795 miles.  "795?!", I thought, "OK, what's the story?"

Maybe repro?  Maybe just the wrong bike, purchased for the wrong reasons?  Needed to try Flavor of the Month (don't laugh, in the photo hobby guys are buying the latest $1600 - $3500 cameras to try for for a while and then flip or return it; B&H is now cracking down on those guys with big return records).

Seeking life's meaning through crass consumerism.

Seen from the ancient world, what I understand is that you are wealthy people, the bikes are incredibly cheap, so is the gasoline so why bother ?  crazy2

When I was searching for my CB1100, I noticed the same thing -- lots of bikes with low mileage (like 70 - 250 miles) for sale, and lots more with 250 - 2000 miles.

I think there are guys who want a bike, like the idea of it, have the money to buy, get one, and then don't ride it much  because of all the other bikes in their garage.  Then the next thing comes along and they have to sell something to make room.

I don't see myself selling this bike.  No way..to unique and to much fun to ride and look at..

However, I could see myself buying a different bike...just to keep the miles down on this one as I love to ride...

but...this bike would most always be my fav to ride...

I'm not worried about why others buy/sell. I love mine and will continue to rack up miles.

I think inexperienced rider who prefer to buy Valk decides to sell immediately.
For me, riding this hude bikem is not an issue but more people who doesnt have enough height and strenght obviously get hard times especially moving in parking lots with the power of own legs Smiley
I think most GL1800 riders woulnd't ride if they did not have a revers gear.

The size is of no consequence to me.  I handle it just fine...and I am a relatively smaller person. (178lbs)

I guess that not so many Valk are for sale but very few buyers are interested  2funny
You have to ride the Valk to understand how easy and cool the bike is.

I'm 5'7" and 143 lbs  Evil I'd never thought I'd buy a Valk. At the dealer's, the bike looks very impressive, heavy, expensive !
The standard Goldwing is pointless for me  because it's much too heavy, something of a 1970s car with all these plastic buttons (auto-radio  2funny) etc. but I tried the F6B and was surprised how easy the F6B is compared to the standard GW. So when I tried the Valk, I was so pleased that I tried it twice to be sure (I bought a CTX 1300 after my crash with the GS 2013, I rode it twice too but I didn't notice the flaws which are real on the CTX - suspensions, HP).

I will never sell my Valk because I want to reach 125,000 mls (6 more years ?) and because nobody wants it !  crazy2
In France the price you can sell your low mileage 2014/2015 Valk is the price you would pay for a brand new F 800 GS, Z1000 Kawasaki, KTM 1050 Adventure, 1000 GSX-R or the very sharp Yamaha MT-10 (circa 14,500 US$).

But maybe Jerry will buy a third one ?  Wink

Can't speak to the market or others but I sold mine ultimately because of the ergos, and the work and money it would've taken to possibly correct it, i.e. lengthening the cables, soldering electronics extensions, changing bars, plus seat and also adding storage.  I know many on here love it and I think that's great. But for me it just wasn't very comfortable for very long and that didn't work for me.  That said, there were lots of individual things I liked about it, and if I were made of money, I would've kept it and tinkered.

well Boy's and Girl's, I cannot ride anymore, so I would like to sell my F6 to someone who can enjoy the ride like I did. bought it new in 98 and loved every minute of riding, but heart surgery has stopped me cold, 3000 would be a good price --I think--Bogator
