Got the biopsy results today, it is confirmed a sacral hemangioma (benign tumor of blood vessels on the sacrum). The first treatment will be serial embolization (cut off the blood supply) and maybe sacroplasty (inflate a balloon in the middle of it and then fill the void with bone cement). but before we decide on treatment my Dr is sending me to a spine specialist to review and confirm proper treatment.

I want to thank every one again for all the prayers and thoughts! the support that this group provides is invaluable.  cooldude

That sounds like really good news, Les.  I mean, I know the treatment is still a serious thing, but the benign part is outstanding.

Hey Brew, Just caught on to what is happening with you, very sorry you are going through this. Happy you did something about it (many people wait), now you have to put up with the treatment, which sounds like a pain in the ass, (sorry). Nothing like being healthy. Don't guess your mishap (crash) could have caused any of this? I have had back surgery because of years of back abuse, anything touching that tiny little nerve and Wow, pain to the fifth power! Will be praying for your speedy recovery way down here next to Mexico. Please let us know how you are doing , your progress, please. I'll wait on you to recover for the Llano BBQ thing.   Firefighter

I have an update. Seen the Spine specialist, He showed me where the tumor is pushing the Nerve root to my right leg. and how the tumor has compromised the structural integrity of my sacrum. since it has encroached on the spinal canal I'm not a candidate for Sacroplasty (minimally invasive).

So I've been scheduled for surgery on OCT 17 (my Birthday) to put in hardware to fuse L5 to my Sacrum (S1) and put screws into both pelvic bones and attach them to the hardware, removing the load from my sacrum. In the meantime we will be scheduling the procedure to block the blood flow to the tumor (embolization), shrinking it to relieve the pressure on the nerve.

Wish the operation was soon instead of the middle of October, and on your Birthday! Happy there is a plan working, sounds like your gonna be on the recovery list for awhile. Will be thinking of you (have been), praying for fast recovery, we will keep in touch, by the way, my birthday is Oct. 11th, but bet I'm a bit older! Talk soon,  Firefighter.

Knowing the problem and having a plan is always better than the unknown.  Sorry they have to go in with the larger cuts.

Maybe while they are working back there, you could get some of those Kardashian butt implants. coolsmiley

Yeah, knowing what it is definitely  relieves stress! I've actually been dealing with this my whole life as it's a congenital malformation that I was born with. and it has caused pain in my right hip/leg since I was 4 years old, on and off. So finally knowing what has been causing it is awesome! Fixing it will suck, but once I'm on the other side of the process I should be much stronger.

As to inflating my back end, I don't really think that I need a bigger one!  coolsmiley

Sorry to hear you are getting screwed in the back side but I hope it is worth the pain to finally get results.
