Wish I was out riding...

Watertown CT

« on: August 13, 2016, 05:31:43 PM »

And Karen caught me asking a question on the Tech Board Smiley   One of the main problems with the bike was that the brakes would lock up when a little heat was applied either by a +90 degree day like the last couple or a couple of miles of riding.

I flushed and rebuilt the brakes and rebuilt the master cylinder and still no joy.  I could barely ride around the block and the front would start to lock.  I was out of ideas.

Guys on the tech board pointed me to the return hole which was clogged.  Actually more than clogged since I could not even tell that it was  a hole.  Looked like a dimple in the metal.  I could not clean it out.  A dental pick would not even start to touch it.  I had to use a dremel and 1/32 and 3/32 drill bits and drill the hole out.  Brakes work good now Smiley

So I finished those, changed the coolant.

Karen was so kind to let me use her new fangled Digisync carb sync tool.   That thing is sweet!  6 digital channels connected to all carbs all at once.  Took about 5 minutes to get all the carbs in order.

I rode the bike over to Joe's this afternoon but he was not home so I left it and texted it was done.

I had a lot of fun riding it over and a test ride this morning.  Quite a big difference between the standard/tourer and the I/S.

Did not change the seat Terry so it is still the same bike, just much better Wink

Nice work, and you actually managed to get a ride in! Glad the  DigiSync worked well. had my carbs synced by Big BF at InZane, so I won't need that for a long time! use it in good health!

Congratulations Brett!  That's an amazing amount of work! I'm sure Joe's going to enjoy getting back on the Valkyrie.

Question for future reference, where's is the return hole?  Is it on the caliper or the brake fluid reservoir on the handlebars?

In the reservoir.  A small hole under a "protector" clip which I assume it to make sure the return fluid does not shoot up an cause bubbles.

There is some question if I drilled it too large (I don't think it will be a probable) or burs inside the cylinder (I cleaned it up with 000 steel wool).  But time will tell.

Here is the before where completely blocked and could not break through with anything that I had:

And here is after with drilling:
