Hey guys. I took off my saddlebags and notice that the front holes have a couple of metal rings (bushings?) that look like they slid up and I can't get the bolts through.  Tried to use a small screwdriver to pry it down, but they seem to be really stuck up there. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. I know someone here will have an easy fix.

THe front bolts go into the frame, while the back ones just the fender.
Jack it up level and they should line back up. With it sitting on the stand it is twisted a bit from not being level.

The easiest way is to have two people.  One grabs the rear fender and lifts the whole fender assembly until the holes line up and second person gets the bolts started.

I have done it several times by myself and it is a booger sitting on the stand. But jacked up very easy.

Metal rings? Not sure I understand just what you're referring to, is it the fender holes not lining up or the rubber/metal mounting holes inside the bags?

I did my myself on side stand. Took a two foot piece of flat steel with holes in it. Slipped it between fender and grab rail down to bottom of fender. Slip a bolt through  a hole with tape around it so not to scratch fender. No nut required. Pulled up while starting bolt. Done. Then remove bolt and slide out flat metal piece.

Thanks for the fast responses, guys.  Put her up on the jack this morning, but that's not the problem.  I can't even get to the frame, as the ring thing blocking the hole is just inside the rail.  both sides and jammed really good.  Can't move it at all.  Any ideas?

Here's a couple links, which part are you talking about?

Thanks for the parts explosion, John, but I'm not even seeing a part.  I can't really see in there, as it is literally just on the inside of the rail.  I'm wondering if there is a channel/tube that got bent out of place.  It is just inside the rail blocking about half of the hole.  Upper half, so it looks like a U or a Japanese flag.  There's only about a 1/16" - 1/8" showing in the upper space, so anything I can get in there is too small to try to pry down, as it's pretty stuck.

Did you try leveraging it with the rear fender, it should move if both the forward rail bolts are out...

Great idea, Bighead, but now I will show just how much of an amateur I am.  How do you get the rails off?  Even with the bolts out, they seem to be stuck on there pretty good.

Take the shocks off then the bolt behind the shock where the top shock bolt goes into.
