This Sunday, Sept 4th I'm going to do a ride out to the Quabbin Reservoir. If anyone is free and wants to ride along, your'e welcome.
Planning on meeting at the Dunkin Dounts in Sterling MA at 9:30 and heading out at 9:45 AM.
Dunkin is located at 50 Leominster Rd (Route 12) Sterling.  Coming by highway get to Route 190 and takes exit 6. Exit 6 will put you right on RT12. Take RT12 south to DD about 1/2 mile from the exit.

This will be a pretty short ride, all back roads out to Quabbin, stop there for a bit then find some place and ride back.

It's a long holiday weekend, hope some of you can make it.

Be nice to see ya. Wall expressed an interest as well.  Claire is in some sort of musical cult so she is out.

I would love to join in, but Kathy and I have a secluded cabin with a private beach just north of Camden, Maine with our names on it for the long weekend.
My weekends seem to be booked until November.
Karen have fun with the cult music thing.

So post the address of this secluded private cottage, who knows who may crash it.
Enjoy.

So I just cancelled the Saturday & Sunday gigs; apparently my left heel is telling me that walking around for 11 hours did not make it happy. Better yesterday, so I went to the store. Bad again today. I'll be there on the trike, but won't plan on walking around much. I cane do this!

Hell yeah, I'd pick everyone of ya's up....but first I gotta buy me a Skippers hat and a stripped shirt
with a yacht embroidered on the upper left, and maybe some Sperry Topsider boat shoes.
Next I'll enroll in the Reader's Digest condensed version on "how to skipper a power yacht"
at the local trade school.  Should be all ready by noon Friday !!!
Now I just gotta find one of them phukers all ready in the water, all I've seen are on dry land.

Karen,
Sorry to hear about the heel, we will cut out the portion of the ride where we hike around the Quabbin. I'll bring the headsets and cords or maybe we can just swing by my house, I live 2 minutes from DD and we can see what works.

You get a Hinkley and I'll supply all the food and drink you can handle. And make sure you bring Gilligan from CT, it's been way too long since I've seen him.

Be it by land, sea, or air... I will be combing the beaches, peeking behind outcroppings of ledges, even looking up in the trees for you. Maybe you can escape the masses, but I know the coast of Maine from Lubec to Kittery like the scars on my body.
You can run, you can swim, and you can hide....I WILL see you some where, some time,  some place,  some how and you won't even know it !!!  And yes, I will have my camera.   Wink  Wink
Love You Brother....

We would have liked to have gone but didn't find out about it till it was too late.

And we were laughing late into the night because we had front row seats to an awesome show.   Grin

Damn, what a great ride. Nice seeing all the Valkyries but better seeing old friends and new ones. Haven't ridden with so many nice looking Valkyries in a long time.
It was great to expect three or four bikes and have nine show up.
The weather was perfect and Deb and I continued to ride for awhile, just one of those days you don't want to end.

Thanks everyone.

PS I don't have much luck posting pictures on this site, not sure whats up with that.

Gary, thanks for a great ride.  Yes it was good to see those relics still on the road, and I don't mean Karen.  Love the new Native American,  ride safe  Barnstormer.

Good one, Tom, and right backatcha! It was a great ride, finally met Hook,  cooldude and could not have enjoyed the day more. As we were pulling out of the DD in the AM, traffic was coming, so I made a speedy entry onto the road, and one of my gloves fell off the tank. I figured I'd just go back after the ride, that it'd just be lying on the side of the road. Imagine my surprise probably 20 miles later at a stop sign, when Orca walks back to the car behind us and retrieves my glove. Total strangers picked up the glovce, and followed us! Great roads, good folks, perfect weather, did I mention pizza? Pizza! Deb & Gary, the CB stuff is great, thank you again for upgrading your stuff to Bluetooth and giving me your obsolete equipment. It will work beautifully on my relic! We need more of these rides so some of the newer folks can meet us old pharts. Thanks again, Gary, and to everyone that showed up, you all put a big honking smile on my face!

It worked!

Someone asked what areas the Quabbin serviced.

I found this map.

http://www.mwra.com/01news/2010/maps/mwrawatermap.pdf

The story of the Quabbin has always interested me.

It was an amazing project that uprooted 2500 people from 4 towns.  Dana, Enfield, Greenwich & Prescott.

13 cemeteries with 7500 graves were moved.

All buildings were razed, wrecked or burned, with a few moved.  The only thing left was the foundations.  The home of Civil War General Joe Hooker was razed.  One was moved to Amherst College.

Another amazing thing is all the trees, brush and loam were removed by crews based out of Boston.
The towns of Ware and Palmer had to deal with their weekend shenanigans.

If you ever get back out there, visit the Quabbin Visitors Center at the Windsor Dam.  Worth the stop.

I ride out there often, will stop at the museum next time. It is an intriguing story. I heard it was a very bitter move for many of the land owners to take.

I used a picture hosting site to upload then post the picture. I guess it a way to circumvent photo stash.
