I bought and installed black brake and clutch levers that the seller said came off a nearly new Goldwing.  My understanding from another forum member was that these would fit.  My intent was to trade out the OEM levers for black.

The brake lever works fine, but the clutch lever has very little travel.  When it's all the way out, I'm not certain the clutch is completely engaged, and when I pull the lever in, it allows me to shift, but hits the hand grip.  Again, just a couple of inches of travel from all the way out to all the way in.

Did I buy the wrong levers?  Is there something I should have done to make them work differently?
Finally, if there's an adjustable black clutch lever that someone has already installed, can I get a link?

Thanks!

Steve,

If memory serves me from my 08 Goldwing the levers on the bike were adjustable. I just cannot remember if the adjustment was on the lever or the actual holder.

I know this is not much help but on the Wings I believe the was a numbered wheel with like five settings.

Yep, you should be able to adjust that if it is an actual GL1800 lever.

Kevin,
Thanks for that, I should have posted that the adjustment is all the way out, turning the adjustment in the other direction makes it worse.

I went back and re-read the ad that listed the levers, the nearly new Goldwing was actually a 2010.  Wonder if a newer year works?

When I bought mine, I got them off a 2010 ABS model.  There was a little tab I had to cut off to put them on, but other than that they worked perfect.

I installed the chrome wide blades from a wing and both worked perfectly. I would put back the old lever and see if all is ok. If not then diagnose the system but if its ok then look very carefully at the comparison of the two levers and see whats the difference. I know this is not really an answer to whats wrong but it will put you in the right direction and should only take a few minutes to do.

The other thing is make sure the rod or pin that comes out of the clutch master is in the recess in the round bushing on the clutch lever. Make sure the round bushing is in there also. Some have had the pin go to the side or forget the round bushing that goes into the lever.

That must be it.  I'll take it off again today and look for that tab.
