Bikers don't need shrinks!

Colleyville, TX

« on: September 14, 2016, 01:30:54 PM »

Hey, just want to make sure you guys and gals have this on your calendars.  For those not familiar with the event, it is a police escorted ride (the good kind with lights in front as well as behind) to benefit kids with brain tumors/cancers. We'll be back out at the Texas Motor Speedway this year for a country ride that is normally followed by a lap or two on the track and then lunch with some of the kids who are in treatment or just out of it and their families. Randy James' band will play again this year, too.  We've had plenty of guys ride in from out of town and a few ride in from out of state to attend the festivities, so feel free to make a weekend of it.

Check out the Texas homeboys who like it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcIBoiVZcpw

Then, get registered at http://pbtf.convio.net/site/TR?fr_id=2647&pg=entry#.V9mzTU3rttQ

The Texas VRCC has been volunteering and riding for at least a dozen years. Come on out and volunteer (you can still ride).  I'll post more info on that later, but all it takes is about an hour in a training session the Thursday or Saturday before the Sunday ride and then show up early Sunday for your shift.  Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions. I volunteer with the group as do several other Valk riders and former Valk riders.

Missed doing my two day ride last year Gary, it's in the plan for the RFK's next month.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

I am planning on going. See y'all there. Most likely I/we will be riding in on Sunday morning and leaving from Dublin at about 7:00.

I think my daughter  cooldude and I will volunteer as long as my health cooperates with me.  Since the accident it seems I have been cursed with gout.  It hit my right foot last week and today it is my left foot.  Sucks  tickedoff not being able to walk.

Valk Riders and motorcyclist of all brands, far and wide, have been making a difference in these kids lives, volunteering at Ride for Kids events for 33 years nationally. This will be the 14th year of our local DFW event. For that we are both proud and thankful!

Yes, you may volunteer and still do the ride with our STARS leading the way. Sign up for one of the two training dates, either Thursday evening, October 6th, or Saturday morning, October 8th. https://signup.com/client/invitation/6775657374/1585977/false#!1585977/false/false

Feel free to bring the entire family. The kids will thank you in a way that is sure to leave a lump in your throat.

Here is a link to the host hotel... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/dfwmc-dallas-fort-worth-marriott-hotel-and-golf-club-at-champions-circle/

Looks like the room block was lifted a couple of days ago, but I'd still suggest you let them know you are trying to book for our Ride for Kids event. You may get a better rate using a travel price search site?

See you soon! Ride safe. ~Jeff

BTT
Register now and get donations in to qualify for the drawing for the motorcycle and other stuff.

And, sign up to volunteer. Yeah, it's a little inconvenient, but you'll be glad you did something to help these kids. For those who don't want to do the group ride or for family members, volunteering is the way to go, but you can do both if you want to. I do. I really like getting out on the TMS track and looking at it from the inside.

Heard from a couple of folks who were having trouble with the volunteer link. If you have trouble, shoot an email to    yjohnson1990@yahoo.com and let her know you'll volunteer. She'll get you hooked up.

Get on the list and get the good spots early.

I already got mine setup.  I am working nights this week so I can do the training Saturday unless it is during lunch.  What time is the training and where is it held?

That's awesome, Les!

Had several VRCC related volunteers at the training last night. Hope to have some more at the training on Saturday.

Here's an update I sent out earlier:

This weekend is shaping up to be an excellent weekend to ride. The rain moves out and the weather will be perfect.  I hope to see you at Texas Motor Speedway with your riding friends for the Ride for Kids. We’ll all get a morning of police escorted riding back roads at a relaxed pace, get onto the TMS track and get to help and have lunch with these kids we’re helping fight cancer. Coffee should be waiting when you get there and the morning air will be brisk. Bikes of every kinds to look at with at least a couple of riders coming up from Houston on vintage bikes for it and hopefully some of our local vintage bikes will be there as well. BBQ is for lunch when we get back. Tough to think of a better way to spend a morning.

When you get into the speedway streets, look for the big tents and hot air balloon on the east side of the track.  See you there.

Videos here: https://www.youtube.com/user/rideforkids

Gary

ps Feel free to forward this note to your friends. This thing spreads by word of mouth, in person and virtually.

Registration and details about the ride are here http://pbtf.convio.net/site/TR?fr_id=2647&pg=entry#.V_fsAU3rttQ
