It is time to introduce myself....

My dad used to be a Honda Motorcycle sales manager and used to rave about these new Valkyries. The dealer had a demo bike and he rode it often and was just in aw of this motorcycle but he had a Goldwing at the time....fast forward 19 years.

My dad and his buddies ride a 1947, 1948, 1952 Indian Chiefs and I "Shadowed" them on a 1001.5 mile ride in August. Upon return my dad and I went to Tuesday Coffee (a motorcycle get together). We checked out a new Valkyrie that rolled in and were not to crazy about the styling but the bug had been set. After 1000 miles we decided to go shop for a bit of old school comfort. The hunt was on!

Me being the son and tech savy started Nation wide searches and as some of you know I even posted a wanted silver and blue. Well a silver and blue just wasn't in the works either asking to much money or to worn/weathered for me to risk traveling to pick up a motorcycle. I found one in New Lisbon, WI and my dad jumped on that one right away and that would put one in the garage regardless. Green and Silver was my second choice but dad was going to let me pick which bike I wanted after we found two. I almost jumped on a two other blue and silver but it just was not to be. I then found another green and silver within 128 miles of the first one worked a deal with the dealership and the trip was on. We flew out to Wisconsin and within 12 hours we had our Valkyries. Within about 1.5hrs of taking possession I absolutely got pounded by the rain and rumor had it I just beat the hail. Dealer said they filed it with gas so 128 miles should be easy but at about 120 my reserve bar indicator is blinking so rolled into a gas station and ran out of gas on the roll up to the pump. Yup takes 5.6 gallons when it hits reserve. Good to know.

The next morning we headed west towards Oregon 2087 miles in 4 days with the first day being only about 438 miles. The bikes ran amazing my dad 68 years old 75 mph corner after setting the bike int he corner puts his hands behind his back and the Valk tracks perfect. We hit some rain coming into Missoula and his bike rear tire slide out a foot or so enough to make him prepare to exit but the bike just calmly snapped back and headed back down the road as if nothing happened. We absolutely couldn't be happier with these Valks. One had 42k the other 44k. Mine the 44k one had the owners manual with all the maintenance. Oil and filter every 4k, plugs, valves, carbs, brake fluid, rear fluid and clutch fluid, air filter all done as recommended.

Great story cooldude

It seems your Dad got the Corbin seat and you the Ultimate.

But he has the Progressive shocks, so maybe that evens out. Smiley

Great looking bikes.

Looking forward to hearing about your travels.

Welcome aboard!!  Great story. Father & Son love it. That would be really cool if that was me and my son. Maybe when he gets a little older.

Great introduction and welcome! This group may be crazy, but they know their stuff and there is always a helping hand. I ride a Jade/Black '98 Tourer and am in the process of bringing another '98 back from being orphaned. That one will be my son's bike. We plan to ride at Inzane next year. It's a great feeling knowing that we have that bond. Enjoy the time with your dad!

Who cares about oil anyways especially when it really only needs changing every 15k miles. We all know the oil companies and manufactures are in cahoots together to sell more oil.... Evil 2funny

Very cool  cooldude I'm assuming you are a commercial fisherman ?

My dad was in the Coast Guard and spent much of my childhood on Kodiak. My mom still lives there and I regularly go back to sportfish.

Speaking of fish time to smoke some more salmon...

So you are the one that beat me to that green and silver IS in north Milwaukee. She looked well cared for but not a lot of farkles, I assume the PO removed them. My hunt for the silver and green continues (I need to match the green and cream tourer I already have). I had a deposit on one in MA, but the dealer sold it out from under me while I was arranging shipping. The dealer was real slow about returning my deposit until I mentioned interstate fraud is the FBI's territory not his local DA. Best of luck with the Large Ladies, they are an addicting source of wind. Any and all questions about maintenance are to be found in the Tech section and Shop Talk, both are invaluable resources.

This is actually a bit humourous as i was in the middle of the deal in MA when apparently you put a deposit down on the bike. I missed a call as you were working with another salseman. I was supposedly first in line but didn't call back soon enough. The one in Wisconsin the sales guy tild me a guy called about an hour after taking my deposit repeated the story about the MA dealer. The WI valk owners manual documented all the maint. Rear oil twice, valves, carbs, brakes, clutch and brake fluids changed oil and filter every 4k. It really is perfect.

Also i don't know how I beat you as a few weeks earlier i tried to buy that exact bike but dealer wouldn't deal on it. A few weeks later getting towards the end of the season he was willing to deal.

The MA bike was probably the best deal in over 8 weeks of shopping...

I was unhappy about the MA bike since it was a great deal. There is time still, it took 3 years before I found the current Large Lady in the stable, so another season or two without the second serious ride won't be an issue. Maybe with only the tourer as the primary ride I may get her out of the break-in mileage and over 60k. She was at 26k when I got her almost 3 years ago. I drove her 60 miles home with snow spitting on me, temps in the 20's, in the second week of Nov. I picked her up 12 miles from home......  coolsmiley
