I'm thinking about getting a trailer fro my Valkyrie Trike.

I currently have a regular utility trailer but the problem is loading & unloading.
The angle of the drop down ramp and trailer bed at the pivot point is a bit too sever causing the trike to bottom when she's at the midpoint. I've also tried elevating the ramp with blocks and then set planks from the ground to the raised ramp but that's a real PIA!

I know I've seen trailers that either have a larger ramp and or lower bed. Do any of you have suggestions for a decent Trike hauler/trailer?

Here's a site that I'm considering. They custom make the trailers to your specifications, have models specifically for motorcycles and needless to say I really like the idea of an enclosed trailer for some long trips I have planned.

http://www.colonycargo.com/select-size/27-motorcycles

Now for the other question. I'm also considering using this trailer to store my Trike. Do any of you see any problems that I should consider in keeping the Trike inside a trailer. It will have vents and I will also have electric running to it for a battery tender and any other power requirements.

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

This company makes a 7734 of a good trailer.   Expensive but worth every penny.

Here is their link.
http://adventuresportsproducts.com/
They have a covered air ride trailer also.
The trailer sets on a boots and when you are ready to lopad or unload, turn the valve, bed drops to the ground, ride on, twist valve back and she goes up to travel height.    Built in straps and etc.
If ya buy one. tell them, R J Vullard or R J Bullard sent ya.  They pay a senders fee if ya buy.

Above  is a rear side view & front view of mine to show the no floppy end straps & wheel chock.

In the photo gallery they show there enclosed (Pod) trailer.     It will hold a Smart car, so it should hold a Trike.

A golf cart trailer works pretty good.  May not be wide enough for a trike, though. It's very low slung, with a fold up gate.  Hoser

RJ, I visited adventuresportproducts.com and was very impressed. I called and the girl seemed nice also. If I buy one, which wouldn't be soon, I will mention how I was led to them. Thanks

Drive the rear of the towing vehicle up onto the ramps,,, that will reduce the ramp angle

I can vouch for John's Trailer Sales in Toledo. I drove 120 miles to buy one there. You can't beat his prices...

No affiliation, YMMV, blah, blah, blah.

This is what I use... That way the bike is clean when I get there... Heh! I have only used it a few times but it works great. With a trike the only thing you will have to check is the rear wheel clearance for loading through the door opening. This is a 5' x 10' trailer. I want a 6' x 12'  but no more than I use it, it's just not worth the extra expense. This trailer pulls better loaded than it does empty too, which was surprising to me. Good Luck & Load Safely!

Night Rider,

That trailer looks like the same ones I'm considering. The 5' wide trailer isn't wide enough for the trike. I'd have to consider the 6 or 7 foot width.

As I had mentioned, one of my concerns is using the trailer as a permanent storage facility for storing the trike. I'd have electric going to it with a small heater for below freezing temperatures and it would be in a shaded area. Another concern is all I have to tow it is a Honda Odyssey with the trailer towing package. I'd have to verify the weigh first.

That shouldn't be a big problem, these trailers come in all sizes, just check the entry door width. As far as storing the bike in there, it should do just fine. I put my Valk in there and hooked it onto the back of my pickup truck for Hurricane Katrina, which blew us around pretty good, but the bike never budged.

If you are going to tow that trailer and trike with a smaller car or SUV, I'd recommend getting a tandem axle trailer with surge brakes on it. I pull that little trailer with my Tahoe and it sails down the road and you hardly ever feel it until you come up to a pretty good grade. If you play with your chock placement a little and get the balance point correct on your trailer, you should do okay pulling it. Good Luck!

Yeah, I was definitely considering the tandem axle option. The place that sells them is located in central Georgia. A definite overnight stay for me.

Thanks again for the feedback!  cooldude

You need to consider the tow vehicle's capacity. The trike alone will weigh around 1,100 lbs. Most smaller cars are less than 1k lbs..........JB.

I agree with JerryB, you should really study your towing vehicles capabilities and make sure that you are within the limitations that are set. I don't know what model your Honda Odyssey is, but the following is for a 2010 model:

TRAILERING Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs)3500
Dead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs)350
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs)3500
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs)350

This is from the following page: http://www.leftlanenews.com/honda-odyssey.html#specifications

Again, Good Luck!

My Odyssey is a 2006 fully loaded. I believe that the specs for the 2010 you listed are the same but I'll check with the dealer first. Thanks again for all of the suggestions and information.  cooldude
