Does anyone have a kickstand that bangs against their pipes/or frame when they are riding.  I tightened the retaining bolts but Im still getting an bang when I hit a bump on the road. THe spring seems tight with no slack.  Any solution?

Check the crossmember that the sidestand bolts to. The crossmember might be bent which changes the position of the sidestand.

Maybe the spring seems tight but is weak enough to allow it to bang.  I'd replace it and keep the old one as a spare, if you have not experienced the joy of a broken kickstand spring you can't really appreciate why you would want a spare.

Are you sure it's the kickstand hitting ? May be missing nuts on the rear muffler hangers. You can also get a similar sound from a bad rear wheel bearing going bad.

You got that right. Or figure a way to keep that k stand tucked up when you ride home..

Not many people have had a side stand spring fail. It is usually the 'Spring Hook' that the other end of the spring attaches to. It is Item #11 on the frame fiche. They bend and then break off.
Did you check the crossmember?

Soon after I bought my Valk stopped to get gas and the sidestand went limp as I lowered the stand.
Turned out #11 on the fiche was bent I didn't lose the spring but the bolt was useless. At home I pushed
the Sears lift slowly under the bike. I discovered I bent the bolt with the lift pushing it to far under
the bike. I have cut a piece of 2x4 that I put at the foot of the stand that stops the lift before it touches the bolt.
Keep the spacer on the jack it would get lost.

I bought a tire at a local Honda dealer and they broke #11 for me...turkeys.  I discovered it up on the BLue Ridge parkway when the stand started dragging the pavement.  If you find a Honda motorcycle dealer with a good mechanic stay with it.  They are hard to find.

Mine started drooping today. If I attach a bungee cord to it the cord touches my truck stack when the kickstand is up.

Suggestions.

Had to ride to Walgreens for stronger different anti congestion meds. Kickstand went into full droop mode.  Rode in 3rd holding it up with left heel. Pulled back into Super 8 parking lot and there's the spring on the ground in my parking space!
