Getting ready to reassemble my Interstate fairing. Took it apart last spring to fix a number of crap the PO did. I actually found a wood screw in the light bulb mounting area where the spring should be, along with the JBWeld. Guess he didn't have a lot of faith in the JB. Anyways, was wondering if someone with more experience could give the correct way to proceed. What goes on first, fairing or instrument panel? (What goes on first, Who goes on second?) there, I said it before any OTHER wiseass does. Does the windshield need to go one before the fairing is installed? Any other tips will be appreciated. Just trying to save myself having to do it twice or thrice. Thanks ahead.

It is covered a little in Section 2 of the Service Manual. I do not know how much help that will be, it is not very detailed. It has disassembly instructions with assembly being the reverse of that. It might help with the sequence.

Ain't much help Bill, but I changed my windshield with the fairing intact. Just had to take off the chrome piece and speaker pods to get to it. So, pretty sure that can wait to go on. Craig

Turns out not what or where, but who you ride with really matters

Assuming the blinkers are installed along with the headlight assembly and it's bezel, Secure the fairing shell first with four aluminum washer inserts and then drive in the bolts, then lay the fairing rubber protective that's secured to the fairing with double sided tape at the each corner, then windshield with rubber grommets inserted, then secure the chrome trim with screws from the inside, then, hook the wires on the speaker panels to the male and female counterparts in the fairing, turn on the radio make sure they're working before securing them, if the little brass inserts are out plz jb weld them in first then anti seize the screws and just snug the speakers panels back in , Do Not Overtight those or you're back to square one.

I don't think it's a good idea to lock tite any fairing screws as earlier suggested. As someone said earlier Fairing shell with headlight and trim and the blinkers. Bolt to the frame

The instrument panel goes on before the fairing. The fairing mounts with 2 screws at the windshield mounting area (rearward), two bolts at the outside edges of the fairing up high on the fairing (forward facing), two bolts that also hold the turn signals straight, thats all.
The windshield is next with four bolts (rearward).
The chrome cover is next and mounts with 4 bolts (foward facing) inside the fairing.
The speakers pods are last, plug in the speakers, and each one mounts with 4 bolts.
