For those who remember me from the event in Port Angeles this past summer... I'm the guy from California

Thursday evening I rode with some friends. Made a mistake and crashed. Bike damaged, but repairable. I have 6 broken ribs, 3 of which are broken in multiple places. This results in "flail chest", which you can look up if you are interested.

I was not fortunate enough to be able to attend and meet you.

Just as important as a repairable bike, is are you recovering?
Wishing you all the good juju to recover and get back on the bike as soon as possible.

-Icelander

{edit}
DANG! have you had the surgery to re-connect those ribs?

No surgery. Just rest and pain.

Thank you for your well-wishes.

Same here Jeff, prayers and well wishing for your recovery.

Understand frailed chest. Hope you are at home and recovering there. Same kind of problems I expect, that I went through after my heart surgery, where they crack open your chest through the sternum. 6 weeks flat on your back, and not behind an air bag or in a car, incase of another accident.

Once again I'd like to thank everyone for their care and prayers. I actually made it to church Sunday, where I was greeted with double-takes, looks of astonishment, and a few offers of big hugs which were definitely not welcome. I told them that my fast recovery is either due to the tremendous physical condition I was in when I had the accident or to their prayers. (I'm 5'7" and about 275 lbs.) Even my doctor is astonished.

Soon I'll be looking for parts for my '99 Tourer: Windshield, handlebar, instruments, engine guard, left saddlebag, and possibly a few other things. The tank will need to be repaired and all will need to be painted.

Thanks again to all!

I'm progressing. Almost completely off any pain meds. Sneezed today, which wasn't too great. Thanks for asking!

Yes, my bike was Miss August. She's not looking quite so great now.

Just read about your accident and noted the last response was in November.  How you doing now.  Broken ribs are painful, not that I know from personal experience, but I've heard they are.  Unlike most broken bones, they can't be casted or surgically repaired.  Is your bike repaired yet.  Able too ride.  Home you make it to Valhalla and Inzane.  I'm pretty sure I meet you in PA.  Did you trailer your bike up and come up with some family?

Hey Speedracer,

I'm almost completely healed up. Bike, not so much. Still looking for some parts and time to do the work. Once it is done, I'll get back on. If it still "does it" for me, ride on. If not, I'll sell her.

But with all of my vacations spend in Port Angeles (second grandchild due soon), I can't see how I'll make it to Inzane or Valhalla. Have fun without me.

Glad to hear you're healing well.

What, you don't think you can take a 2-3 day detour over to Post Falls, and try to meet up with us again?  cooldude

Nothing like family, to give you somewhere to go. Hope all is well there too. It's a little hard to detour the other side of the sound, when you are coming up from CA to the Olympic peninsula. Are you planning on being in Port Angeles around the same time end of June?

We head up there in a few weeks to meet the latest addition to the family. We will almost certainly go again this summer. Exactly when won't be decided for a while.

Today I took my first ride since the crash. I wasn't sure I'd want to keep riding, but I immediately started shopping for a new helmet

Will tow her up to Port Angeles July 1. Looking forward to some cool riding. It was 112 F here today.

Just reading through this post.  Your (5' 7" 275 lb) comment made me chuckle.  Glad to see you were able to retain your sense of humour!  Man, I know about unwelcome sneezes... broke my pelvis, ribs and back 30 years ago and to this day I almost pause before I sneeze.

Good on you for getting back on your bike!

Blessings to you!

Thank you! I tried to keep my sense of humor. Was even joking with the medics on the side of the road... that is between screams when they'd move me at all.

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Just got back form Port Angeles area.  Never been to that part of Washington. Stayed several days west of there.  enjoyed the area.

As a side note, came back thru the Tacoma-Portland area on I-5 mid morning on Saturday.  It was a rolling parking lot.  Not use to that kind of traffic.  I was pulling a A-Frame trailer so couldn't jump from line to line very easily.  Was glad to get south of Portland and to open traffic.

My wife and I are seriously looking at moving sometime to the Olympic Peninsula. Much less rain than the rest of western Washington due to the rain shadow. Glorious summers. So tired of the heat here in the Central Valley of California, not to mention that California really will fall into the ocean soon... not seismically, but fiscally. Would rather be off that ship when it goes down.

That section of I-5 shouldn't be that bad, especially on a Saturday morning. Something must have been causing that.
