A little late, I usually try to post this a little earlier.

A Pittance of Time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kX_3y3u5Uo

Off to the Cenotaph with my son in an hour. I hope that everyone remembers WHY we have today off work, and give a moment of reflection at 11 am.

Thank you to those who have served!

(I had Highway of Heroes play after on youtube. My 1st time hearing it)

Just returned from the Cenotaph here in Agassiz. It's good to see so many young families in particular that participate, teaching another generation of how important it is to remember those who sacrificed for what we have today.

I always liked this song....hard to imagine what servicemen and women and their families went through

Good for you.  cooldude

Actually,  I did not attend this year. It is SOOO busy here, I show up early, have to park a half mile away and end up too far from the event that I can't even see it. The last 4 years I brought my tablet with me and stream it while attending.

This year I watched it streaming to my TV. Saw so much more, that I always had missed before.  Embarrassed

I was on parade back in the late 70's, not too big attendance then. Now there is no room. And like you mentioned, young families. New people, people that didn't have close family members in the forces, but they are there by choice because of what the day represents.

I thought I would start earlier this year, also posting here rather than start a new thread.

The 1st post, with the song Pittance of Time is still relevant today as it was years ago (scroll up).

With COVID, and along the lines of my past years post, I'll be watching from home on the TV. I hear that they aren't even going to have the Cadets on parade. I was there every year when I was in, from 12-19.

What did you think of Whole Foods (owned by Amazon) on the Rock, banning all "adornments" on their "uniforms"? So this would be a no to the Poppy, Pink Ribbon, etc.

It was despicable. While I understand a corporation needing to try and just be neutral and not allow any political statements in today’s cancel culture climate, a poppy clearly isn’t a political statement but a sign of respect.

Thankfully they changed their policy. And thankfully we have the right to send them a message with our dollars and go elsewhere when stuff like this happens.

Ceremonies will be limited this year but keep in mind that many Legions still have fundraisers and websites where we can donate to show our support.

Whole Foods...the pretentious "upscale" grocery chain from the States. They're all the rage  in Toronto and Vancouver...which tells you everything you need to know  Roll Eyes
To be fair, I can see a corporation like that not realizing that Canadians are just as respective of our current and past generations' service men and women's sacrifices as our neighbours to the South are or other countries. They know nothing of our country... it's just an outpost for a few more stores. At least they reversed their decision fairly quickly... got a quick lesson on Canadian tradition and values

I was supposed to march with the Falklands Veterans in London yesterday. All cancelled due to Covid. I attended a service with my local Veterans Breakfast Club. Very moving and emotional as usual.

I believe there is no talk of cancelling, just down scaling a lot. Fewer servicemen, and I expect people attending. I'm figuring the parade will be double spaced, to keep people at a distance.

Falklands, so this was outside of the end of WWI in 1918 celebrations? I hadn't heard of it, but then, I'm not too familiar with the US Veteran's Day either (other than the same thing, remembering those who had served).
