It is a 22 mm.I had to buy one last night at Advance Auto to change my pinion cup. Got it in 1/2 '' drive, and removed it with an air impact wrench.Came right off ,no problem.

We got a New Holland combine back in the 70's made in Belgium.  It was metric, and of course we had NO metric wrenches back then.  Had to buy them up to the eq. of 9/16's.  After that, the larger sizes are so close to our sizes, we just used regular wrenches.  They work fine.

You can use the standard size wrenches and sockets on the larger size but I prefer to use the 6 sided sockets as opposed to the twelve when doing so.

I have been filling out my metric large sizes over the past few years and just picked up the 27mm for the rear axle nut!  Prior to that 1 1/8th worked.

Thanks,,going past china frieght tommorow/willl stop and grab a 22mm socket...the manual says 16mm threads so i was guessing it would be in the 20,s for the nut...my drive shaft teeth corners / edges are rounded off so replaceing it and the cup.2001  38k miles...dont think prev. owner was much on preventive maint.

If you are replacing the cup, replace the shaft as well. A worn-into-new part will rapidly wear the new one to as bad as the old.

Shaft and cup need to be replaced together.
