Took the bike (99 Valk) out yesterday. Got issues. It starts and idles fine. Runs smooth till you twist the throttle al the way open, then it falls on its face. If I roll into the throttle no issues. I drained the tank. Put new gas and half a bottle of sea foam in it. Going to take it out today and see if there's any improvement. I already checked fuel flow from the petcock, checked the vacum lines. Checked the plugs. Drained the bowls and didn't see any crud. I did let her sit for awhile (lower back issues). Want to make sure I'm not missing anything before I tear into the carbs.

Your process seems fine.
The only thing I would have done differently is use Berrymans b12 as it is a  better cleaner.

During the cleaning process be sure and shut off the gas at the petcock when stopped.
Sometimes carb cleaner will dislodge crud that temporary lodges in a float valve and/or petcock and later flushes out based on flow or movement/action.

If the petcock seems gritty when turned, you may want to clean it and the gas tank.

I had a Yamaha YZF600R that acted similarly after a winter storage...I just kept riding and revving into the point where it stumbled over and over and it just worked itself out after an hour or 2.

Different bike...4 carbs vs 6...but kinda the same.  Grin

Took her out for a ride. No improvement. Bike is going on 18 years old and only has 24k miles on it. it's probably time. So next question is does Honda sell a service kit that includes everything?

If you are referring to the carbs for a complete overhaul, I believe every item needs to be bought separately. I also don't think you want to buy from Honda directly. Procaliber is cheaper.

Wait for more replies, and/or search, there is even better pricing on the floats or needles.

One day is also not long enough to let the Seafoam do its job. Ride, sit, and ride again. Can take upwards of a week. If it isn't 100% better after the tank of fuel, then with the next one, try the Berryman B12. Just like the Seafoam, add 1/2 can to the fuel. Then Techron, same thing.

Unless you are familiar with working on the carbs, have an ultra sonic bath, I would go with the additive riding method first.

Sounds like you are expecting instant gratification for you minimal effort to solve the problem. Using an additive in the gasoline is not an instant cure and depending upon many factors can take quite few tanks of fuel to attain results acceptable to a purist. I think you ought to take them carburetors off right now and see what's the matter.

Got the bike out this morning. Been sitting with sea foam in it for a few days.  If there's not a lot of crud in the carbs sea foam will work pretty fast and will shows signs of improvement over night. If jets and/or air bleeds are clogged nothing on the market will eat through that without eating the floats and o-rings. So since I have a 1/2 of can of sea foam it's gonna get used just for GP. The bike tops out 105 mph. I've had it up 125 in the past. I shut the petcock off while riding and it took awhile to run dry. Fired right back up after opening petcock. Must have gotten some really crappy fuel last time I parked it. Alcohol and water will destroy a carb fast. (I use to run a methanol fueled drag car).

Definitely don't buy the carb gaskets and pieces from Honda.  I made that expensive mistake.  I paid around $500 for partial carb parts that I could have bought online much cheaper.  I found a great supplier of these parts called Red Eye Technical Services.

Good luck to you

Doesn t any one drain the bowls anymore ? turn the fuel off open the drainage screw under the carbs ,collect fuel in container If a bike is up for more than a month it should be done. Got great results puting techron in the tank I have even noticed better mileage with the tourer after a couple of use cooldude

Took her out again. I might be making progress with the sea foam. After about an hour drive she started to clear up a bit. Gonna keep at it for a few more tanks. Got a can of Berrymans to try next. At least the weather is cooperating.

Been buying parts from Service Honda. Got a thing for OEM parts.

Checked out the Red Eye Tech website. Looks like good stuff.

OK gone through 2 tanks of sea foam and a tank of berrymans. No joy. Pulled the carbs today. Had that green gunk growing in the bowls, 4 partially clogged high speed jets and 3 partially clogged low speed jets. #1-5 carbs were pretty clean. Waiting on new rubber. I think the carbs needed attention since I bought the bike 3 years ago. Can't wait to see how it runs.

Got the carbs off. Green gunk everywhere. 3-4 high speed jets were clogged. Low speed jets  had crud in them also. All clean now. Got all the rubber parts from Zeigler Motorsports including manifold o-rings for $134. All OEM. Got everything back together. Now the weather isn't cooperating.  Sad Can't wait to see how she runs. Smiley Hopefully tomorrow.

Are you able to get non ethanol polluted gasoline?  (my closest station is 50 miles, each way)

At least for winter months, unless you don't ride much.

The closest non ethanol fuel is 100 miles one way.  Sad

Is there any members here that have a carb rebuild service... I know there is a guy in Canton, TX. that is the V4 Honda carb guru... He's ex-Air Force Jet mech... he does 150 sets of carbs a year... Seems like a great way to make a living like Billy does... cooldude

I am not much for the mechanical side, no time or patience just yet. Big BF is going to rebuild my carbs in a couple of weeks. Fortunately, he spends a lot of the winter here in Phoenix. I have a '99 Tourer and  '99 Standard . I am going to sell the Standard. He will be working on the Standard so I can sell it with a clear conscience. Who knows, depending on how it runs, I may sell the'06 Kawasaki V2K and just keep the Valkyries.....

Had similar issues last summer and found out that european models have foam in the topcover of the airbox. This foam was dissolved and made the Valk loose power at full throttle. Bought new airfilterbox-top (the one with foam) and it pulled again all the way to the top.
