Has anyone ever had reason to remove the outer cover, be it leather or vinyl? I understand the cover is glued down to the foam so it would seem to me that pulling the cover off would take some of the foam with it. Yet, I've seen it done at Bike Week, for example, where the cover is pulled off most of the way so they can install the gel insert in the foam after it's cut out. How do they do that without ruining the rest of the foam?

when i had my ultimate seat recovered i removed the cover myself. my upholster guided me through the process. all you do is get a exzato blade and slowly pull the cover back while running the blade back and forth between the cover and the foam. this can take awhile. however ultimate has good covers that fit to the foam ,so the only glue i ran into was at the back of the flat part of the seat were you sit. they have to glue it there so to keep the cover inplace so it can be pulled into place and riveted to the pan. take your time you will do fine. if pull to hard on the cover you will pull foam out in chunks. if this happens any upholstery shop can reglue some more in and sand it back down to the shape you had it before. i hope this helps.

Thanks for the info on the removal. Since I live in the Orlando area, with BikeToberfest coming up this month in Daytona I might also wait and talk to a couple venders over there re. how they do it.
