Latest strange behaviour from the Interstate. While on the Kansas color tour to Nebraska, the speedometer quit. After the trip, checked and reinstalled the sensor. What it does is register one mile on the odometer for every ten miles traveled. The Speed indicator does not move. During the trip it gradually dropped in speed until it got to zero mph. Any one ever have this happen before? I suspect the sensor that is wired from the front whell hub to the speedometer. Thanx for any help. Hoser

I'd replace the sensor. Pretty common failure on the I-states.

Try changing you front bearings. I had trouble 2 yrs ago. After messing with the sensor & changing gears , I read that the slight click I was feeling in the front end could be early signs of brg slop. Evidently the slight bearing slop was affecting the sensor performance. Changes the brgs & no speedo issues in 2 yrs.

Hoser, remove the sensor and see if the geared blade turns when you turn the wheel. If it turns, put some gentle resistance on the blade by holding it with needlenose pliers then check. If you don't have a solid mechanical connection of the blade to the wheel, check the coupling between the wheel and the gear. The coupling is made out of soft stamped sheetmetal and can be damaged (tangs bent) when installing the gear into the wheel if the tangs on the coupling are not lined up with the gear unit. I hear it's been known to happen. If the coupling is damaged, you should be able to fix it. Maverick

Found it, Mav. Bent the tabs in the speedo gear box on the left side by tightening the axle, straightened the tabs, bingo, works good! That was a very clear explaination you posted, appriciate it very much. hoser
