Upon recommendations from some posts, went out today and bought the Sta-bil Marine, ethanol fuel treatment and stabilizer.

The regular one was beside it, and other than being about $1.50 cheaper, there is also a difference of how much fuel it will treat.

Marine - 80 Gals
Regular - 20 Gals

Wow, a big difference! I'll be using it as a stabilizer, so will follow the storage recommendations. Not trying to clean out the carbs, that will come in the spring after the tank of gas is emptied.

Speaking of carb cleaners, have any of you guys found a Canadian retailer that sells Berrymans B12?  Or do you buy it across the line?

The marine Staybil I purchased, in addition to storage, suggested using at each filling. Also, there was another marine Staybil product also mentioning storage but otherwise seeming to be suggested for performance and constant usage.

Confusing.

Did I select the correct version?

I listed the full name/description that was on the bottle. Haven't added it yet, so haven't read the fine print. This is also in Canada, so maybe a little different packaging? It said fuel treatment and stabilizer.

I buy it south of the line.

I was looking for this in July when I drove from Van - Cal - Edm and back to Van, could not find it in any auto store from Salmon Arm to Edm. No one even heard of it. The van I was driving had a little stutter, so wanted to add some injection cleaner to it (B12 works for that also). Ended up just buying some from Canadian Tire, heavy 1st dose, then followed directions. Ran better on the way home, but then it is also all down hill from AB.

weird how the marine stabil supposedly will treat 80 gallons vs. only 20 gallons for regular red stabilizer?  Must be tons more concentrated or something would not want to overdue it then right could cause more issues trying to start the engine?

I once put apparently too much normal red stabilizer in my small push mower gas tank and had one heck of a time starting it would not keep running but for only 3-7 seconds and kept dying on me.  Had to be too much stabilizer since that mower always started fine and right after adding what I thought was just a smidge, was too much to keep mower running at all.  Guessing I put in small full gas tank at most 1/2 an ounce if even that, but must have been way, way too much for such a small tank.

Most marine gas have little to no Ethanol in it, makes sense that it would require less stabilizer.

I'm using Marine Sta-Bil 360 for our long winters and ethanol treatment.

It claims a new "Vapor Technology" that supposedly protects the engine and fuel system above and below the fuel line.  I was using Star-Tron before finding this stuff.

I put half a can of Seafoam to a tank full, let run to get to carbs. park it and forget it. Been doing this for as long as I can remember in my bike, two four wheelers, and lawn mower. Never had a problem.

I used to use Stabil but haven't in years and probably never will. Relative to what Cookie said I used it in all my small engines, pumps and chain saws when I was fire chief. Every year I rebuilt carburetors or had hard starting / running issues using Stabil over the winter storage months.  I went by recomenations but always had problems in the spring. When tearing carbs down I found Stabil had gummed jets and passages.

I switched to Seafoam and never had a problem after that.  Even with the Seafoam I could see carbon coming out the exhaust when the motors were started. To each his own, but when I had to rely on fire equipment starting and running when I need it, this was the product that worked for me. I'm sure others have used Stabil for years without issues,  but I couldn't afford to when it mattered most. I trust it in everything I personally own for storage and just general use.

I finally prepared one bike, the other had a dead (too low) battery and is now on the charger.

Took the bike out for a nice little drive yesterday in the rain. Read the directions, 1 oz/5 Gal for storage. Figured 1.5 oz would be more than enough for the IS, and since it was designed for ethanol fuel, I just topped up the tank with my reg grade.

I'll see how they behave next spring when I get them out again for riding. I've usually only added Stabil then B12. That and Chevron fuel with Techron, I haven't had any issues since my Shadow and first Valk IS from storage out of Las Vegas (bought in Dec, picked up in Apr).

The Sta-bil Marine had doses for fuel treatment and for storage.
