This morning she tripped(doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing), fell on her right shoulder and broke it at the ball at the top of the arm. I finally got to go home for a short time after about 5 hrs. in the ER, I had called 911 since I figured they'd get her admitted directly and a lot faster than if I took her in. Lots of pain, 6mg of morphine didn't even touch it. She was pretty drugged up when I left this evening, they're keeping her at least tonight for observation and will decide tomorrow about a couple more days. The problem is going to be if the pain can be managed without a nurse attending. If not, then they have to keep her a bit longer. Been a looooong day.  Sad

Oh my,Sorry to hear this John. Not something Rita needed or you to have more  worry . May the Lord present her with some pain relief and give the Docs some plans to begin the healing.

Rita was kept in ER Friday night, then was admitted Saturday morning for a minimum of three days by rule. That's what was needed before she could legally be transferred to a nursing facility for extended rehab. This was done for two reasons; her pain management needed to be administered by a nurse....I'm not a nurse. Second....regardless of her pain management, my present condition didn't lend itself to total care just yet. The humerus(upper arm bone) was broken near the top below the ball that goes into the shoulder. There was no displacement of the two parts of the bone so no surgery is planned, they figure it will heal on its own. It's almost like a compression fracture, still creating a lot of pain. At present the arm is immobilized. Her biggest problem now is the meds are hard on her, she's never been able to tolerate high powered meds anyway and this stuff is nasty but necessary. So far, she's unable to walk without assistance, too weak, too frail. Tomorrow, Tuesday, she'll be transferred to a nursing home near our place that also has a good rep for rehab. Looks like our Christmas is going to be rather drab this year.

The dr. got on my case earlier today. I've been experiencing some pain in the hip and knee and he flat out told me I'm overdoing it with the walking back and forth in the hospital and those long hallways. I'm writing this at 2:30am Tuesday due to pain and can't sleep. I already spent one night at her bedside because she was afraid to be alone. Not sure what I'm supposed to do.  Sad

I was hoping you would give us an update but also hoping for a little better report John.  Take care of yourself and heal so you can help her soon.  Continued prayers for you both.

Tell Annie Oakley that normally I had been doing light duty around the house and all was going along fine.  Then Rita decided to clean house the day before the cleaning gal comes to clean house. Typical woman! So there.   Grin

My friend take care of your self, not doing any good to have both of you down. Both you and Rita are in our prayers.
