Scott has recently asked questions about parts for installing a centerstand on a GL1800C. I have considered doing the same. But it occurred to me that the 1800 is really a pretty heavy beast and, if the centerstand is not engineered "just right," it might be pretty tough to get the bike up on the stand.
On one of my Moto Guzzis the centerstand worked exceptionally well. It was almost a "one hand operation" to get the bike onto the centerstand. But when I changed the shocks to half-inch shorter gas shocks, it was impossible for me to get the bike onto the stand. I ended up leaving a square of three-quarter-inch plywood nearby so I could roll the bike's rear tire onto the plywood and, then, could pop the bike onto the centerstand.
So, how is it with the Valkyrie? Is the GL1800B stand engineered such that it is easy to pop the Valkyrie onto the stand? If not, what "routines" have you developed to make using the stand tolerable (and safe)?
Thanks!
Bill

I have trouble carrying a 1 gallon can of gas due to nerve damage in my neck and back. With weakness in my hands I can get her up but sometimes I'll need 2 or 3 tries. I love my center stand even if I need to put a board under tire in the future is no big deal.

I don't have one on my 1500 valks (and would not based on reports of them dragging in hard peg dragging leans, maybe worse on a high crowned road).
But the most often trick reported is to ride the front tire up on a piece of 2 X 6 in front (or something a bit taller); raising it up in front makes it easier to put it on the stand (less lifting required).
On my old CB 750K, I would stand next to the bike, begin to roll it backwards by the bars, then jump on the center stand foot peg with the right foot while lifting the rear frame. A little rearward inertia helped a lot, but you can lose it and drop the bike this way.

I've bough a GW second-hand stand and I had to buy the specific bolts, nearly as expensive as the stand ! I had no problem to fix the stand though the left muffler doesn't like it at all, and I know that I have to be carefull when I leave the sidewalk (because that's where we park the bikes here ). The good thing is : getting the bike up is no problem at all

Just step down as you lift up on the rear handle and it pops right up. Although, I am 6' and 245lbs and it might not be as easy for someone smaller.

That's encouraging, Ledany. With my boots on I'm 5' 8" and weigh 140 - heavy boots! So I bet the centerstand will work well for me.

Bill, for me, the centre stand is one of the best things I have put on my bike. It is great for cleaning, oil changes, putting other stuff on and for storage. It is the one thing I could not do without.

Thanks, bscrive. I think the parts guy at my Honda dealer has several used GW stands. I'll begin to assemble all of the bits and get this project done.

I have learned very well to do all those things without a center stand , only one of my many many bikes have had a center stand , but , that's just me and does not work for everyone OTOH , I can see how it would make things easier Bill, for me, the centre stand is one of the best things I have put on my bike. It is great for cleaning, oil changes, putting other stuff on and for storage. It is the one thing I could not do without.

Best thing I've put on mine. I can put it on the stand sitting on the bike. Goes up very easy. Love it for cleaning. ebay sells take off parts for this add. Russelville Honda creates 3 wheelers and sells the parts for this as they take them off

To tell the truth, I use the center stand rarely. Even for the oil change, it's easy to do it without it. I wanted a center stand in case of a flat tire in the middle of nowhere With the stand, it should be easier to use the repair kit (because the wheel is just a few cm above the ground) and inflate the tire with the air compressor.
