Author Topic: Corbin seats?  (Read 4870 times)

I'm thinking about summer riding, and my favorite seat ever was the Ultimate bigboy. But,they don't make seats for the new Valk.
I am wondering about the corbin seat? I know we all are differ, and such. I know I am built where my hind end gets sore on the saddle of most bikes, I have had when touring. I do stop every 100 miles or so, but by 100 miles or so I am sore and it makes the ride not as enjoyable.  Anyway, what do you think about the corbin in my situation? The Ultimate worked for me on my VTX1800 when I had it. I could cover 700 miles a day and feel sore after a brief time.
The corbin looks great from the pictures I have seen, but, I hate to spend that kind of doe if it isn't any better then stock. Opinions and experience with the corbin will be appreciated.....

Both Jerry and Sherry have done around 450 miles per day a couple days in a row on week long trip and 0 complaints.  Very little padding for the driver and plenty of padding for the passenger but it just works and works well.   But it is not for everyone.  Consider the Russell Day Long if a very hard low padding Corbin is a worry. The Russell will be comfortable for anyone I would think where the Corbin might not.

I have the Corbin. It is real nice, a hundred times better (I think  Smiley )
than the prototype Ultimate seat I got to sit on at InZane this year.

They'll "adjust" the seat to fit you (you can send it back and they'll
redo some or all of it) if it doesn't fit you when you get it, and I think
the quality is top-notch.

Still... I sent my OEM seat to Russell, my build date was last week,
I can't wait to get it.

My bike will be even uglier than normal when I put the mis-matched
Russell/OEM-passenger-seat/Utopia-backrest combo on it, but man, I
bet it will be VERY comfortable... Russell can't put a backrest in
the rider seat, and I'm shooting for an eventual solo set-up.

Oh yeah... the Corbin seat is real nice looking  cooldude

Much better than stock in fact no comparison and I mean you cannot really compare the two. The Corbin puts you in a bucket and as far back as possible and you fit in that bucket every time. Unlike the OEM seat that you sit on top of and there is no sweet spot. But its the hardest seat of all the mentioned aftermarket manufactured seats at first. It does wear in and then hours on the seat are fine. I and others have spent hours in the saddle and it is the only seat I would buy. If you get off at 100 miles you should not have a problem either.

I personally believe its the best looking one out there also. Plus Corbin has mods you can do when ordering that will make not only the seat your own but the bike as well. Mine has a nose job, others have ordered it with softer padding and they are pretty helpful on the phone. But with all that said if you normally like a cushy seat, I dont think it will be the one for you. I would suggest finding one close by and seating in it but it will still only give you a small idea if the seat will fit.

I agree with you there. When you sit in a pocket, it seems to support great, and be more comfy.

I like that you don't have to send your own seat in also. I just want a good seat, so I will get back to covering more miles, as to visit and travel more. Right now I'm a little shy of long trips. The farthest I have driven is 6 hours one way, on the stock, and after an hour or so, saddle sore and takes the enjoyment away.

I've had better seats and have traveled the 1000 to 5000 mile trips on.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the stock is very uncomfortable. The bike otherwise is my favorite fore sure. I love this bike, and I smile everytime I jump on this Valkyrie. I've had around 50 to 60 motorcycles or so over the years. ( I use to buy, fix up, ride, and sell for a hobby.)

Did I say I love this bike? I do.......

Welcome to the I love my bike club   cooldude cooldude Grin Wink

STOCK SEAT = SUCKS at least for me.

Corbin designs their own pans that are hard fiberglass and they dont break and are the support for their backrests also. For that amount of riding I dont think you will have a problem but it will take longer to break in. I suggest leaving the seat in the sun for a bit then sitting on it. I believe I found it breaks in faster that way.

It was a long day and was late at work and walked out into the parking lot and looked back and this is what I saw. I just stood there bike idling smoothly and quietly and the lights on and all the light patterns from the lights on the building and it was one of those moments that I just thought, I love my bike. It was kind of a shot that reminds me of the James Dean pic at the corner restaurant a bit lonely and yet full of life. I got on rode away and smiled the whole way home.

I got the Corbin, and I don't like it.  Undecided It's a very stiff seat, and if it hurts your butt after sitting for a couple hours on seats, you won't like this one. I'm considering getting a Russell, but I'm also considering if I want to change over to a adventure bike so I can go on more back woods trail rides. I love Beatrice, but her seat options just aren't very good.

Then send the Corbin back and have them redo it with softer foam.  You took an off-the-rack fit and it doesn't work for you, have them redo it custom.

The foam on my Corbin is soft enough to compress with 2 fingers, very comfy (made that way because I'm light).

I have my eye on a Corbin. I still have the stock seat and 7000 miles is enough torture. I'll ask for softer foam if I order new or jump on a used one if I see it. Anything has to be an upgrade over the flat frying pan I have now.

Robert,  this bike is not a Valkyrie in the tradition and style this forum was founded on,  but this bike is a classic in its own right, not what everyone wants or likes. To each their own. As we can see theses bikes are showing up used in the market place as some do want something else. I love the bike, the picture you posted shows the real style of this bike and what it represents, simplicity, style and performance and reliability of a Swiss  watch. What more can you say. Damn, you keep tweaking me with those bags. Really  sets the bike off,  I may just have to buy a set. cooldude

The recent ride to Stockton Alabama really clued me in to how few of our motorcycles are on the road. We may all have come together on the forums, but out in the wild we are rare beasts indeed.

I had A LOT of people coming up wondering what was going on. Unique factor alone makes me want to keep this ride forever. The Valkyrie Rune seems to be more rare, but this Valk is almost as Great White Buffalo status too.

This bike is for anyone that can stomach the home brew mod scene and settle on a good seat.

Whats realy hurting me right now is my wifes heath. Alzhimers issue. was hoping just old timers but more and more don't know. Getting to the point almost needs assistance getting around.  Sad Feel guilty when I go out riding. The guys up north really entice me with all their rides but don't want to be gone to long. Need to meet in the middle some weekend.  Smiley

What's best? Saturday  or Sundays?  This weekend is out. But would definitely like a meet.

Saturday is always best for me, Sundays are church and then maybe ride. So see you in couple of weeks and will discuss details as time gets closer.

LOL a board with 2 nails in it is better then stock! Hope you like it, personally I love mine but boy oh boy wasn't it hard when I got it. I am sure I could feel every ant I happened to run over for that first 30 minutes. Probably got 3000 odd k's on it now and much better. Still firm but I like it. Looks the part too.

Good One... To funny....... Ya, I'll give the seat a chance to break in. I really believe it will work for me. I get it, its a saddle, not a lazyboy chair. I look forward sitting in more of a pocket, or bucket as they call it. Those are typically the most comfy onces for me...I have had a couple very good seats in the past. So, I hope this one works for me.

I popped the staples off the back 1/3 of the stock seat, pealed the cover back, then used an electric steak knife to cut (flattened-out) that part of the seat foam that bulges sky-word.   Re-seated/re-stapled the cover, then threw an Air-Hawk cushion on top.    The Air-Hawk floats my a$$ on a cushion of air vs making direct contact with the stock seat.   I also cut the Pillon seat plastic and foam back a few inches, so i could set the Air-Hawk further back in the seat.  This gives me a more forward lean to the handlebars.   I've gone consecutive 500+mile days with no pain.    The cushion is around $100+.     Of course butchering your seats isn't the best for resale value, but this setup works for me.

I ordered a Corbin back rest to try on the riders position (lol how much???!!) and should be interesting to see how that goes. If it is crap for any reason it is going to go to the sissy bar position as I think it looks a damn site better them that extraordinarily expensive OEM offering.

However if it is awesome then a second will be ordered for the back.

I think the Corbin backrests are great in the rider's position, both the normal one and the
roid-cushion one... I bet you will like it.

I just installed my new All Leather Corbin Dual Touring Saddle with the large passenger backrest pad that fits my OEM Honda backrest..All I can say is "WOW", I'm very pleased with this saddle.....The black leather is very soft, the padding is plush...I'm 6-1, 200lbs and with this seat, I have no back issues like I did with the crappy stock seat...It's a pleasure to ride now, my longest ride so far is 220 miles, not one back issue, I'm very happy with this seat...The large replacement backrest pad replaces the OEM Honda pad on the OEM Honda sissy bar, it's large and curved and the wife loves it..
