Guys and Gals:

Is anyone out there running the Kuryakyn Magnum mirrors on their Valk?  If so:  Standard length (magnum) or long (magnum plus) stems?  Flat or convex glass?  I'm ready to replace my OEMs, and would welcome any input.  Thanks kindly.  Terry

Is this the mirror your talking about?  I took them off my bike and was going to sell them.  Near perfect shape.  Only thing wrong is the left side mirror adapter broke off and needs to tapped and removed.  Then just buy a new 10mm adapter.  Mirrors are in great shape.  Im just changing it up some.  Let me know if interested.  PM me.

I've had 'em for several years. I have the Magnums, large head, convex glass. I originally bought the flat glass model but soon realized that wasn't even close to the OEM's in what I saw behind me. I then bought a pair of replacement heads with convex glass & they are almost identical to the OEM's in regards to the view, only they are nicer to look at. I bought mine at J & P. At that time you could buy the parts individually in order to get exactly what ya needed.

I'm running the large, long stem flat magnums.
IMO any longer would be too much.
I'm a little disappointed that the glass scratches easier then I've ever seen. Overall I like them and quality is is about an 8 on a 10 scale. Chrome [mirror shell] scratches easier too. And I'm diligently careful.

And my 5 year old mirrors now come with a setscrew to lock'em in place. I've always had a problem with my left, even Red Locktite won't keep it from breaking loose and swinging back over rough bumps. Think I'll drill and tap some set screws myself this winter!

The Long Stem Magnums get out past the grip ends a wee bit.

I've run large head convex magnums on several bikes.  I've had the short stem magnums on my IS for a couple years, but I just last weekend pulled them off because I cannot get the right mirror to adjust high enough without rotating the brake lever down farther than I want it.  So I put the butt ugly rectangles back on again.  In 40 years of riding, it is my experience that OE mirrors work best but look like Kmart rejects.  And, the metric adapters (since the Magnums are made for Hogs) do continually come loose (and if you bear down on them with the wrench, they strip).  I did get them to stay tight longer using plumbers tape on the adapter threads.  They are nice mirrors, and probably would work better for me with long stems.

However, my supervalk came with OE teardrop Yamaha mirrors with the mount arms turned almost straight up and they work very well, and look better than the OE's too though the glass is a bit smaller.  I was just tonight looking at HDL for mirrors and ran across these, which appear to be a near copy of Yami mirrors.  The first couple reviews are not good, but then the rest seem happy with them.  Mirrors, especially those with less range of adjustment, are very much related to rider height.  What works for me at 5'9" may not work for 6'2".

I was thinking of going over to the V*1100 Delphi forum and asking if anyone has a set of OEs for cheap, since they are probably better made than the HDLs.

Nice write up.
I would like to add that, to the best of my knowledge & memory Sad , I believe most if not all [except maybe for some true customs] MC mirror stems allow by way of the inherent lock nut, at the threaded mount end, to position the mirror stem as to allow for more flexible adjustments [swing forward or aft a bit & lock down] for varying rider heights. That and the fixed bar pitch near the mirror mounts and the mirrors own pivot points should work in almost all instances. Stem/arm length should usually become the only limitation.

Although they are not Kuryakyn they look promising and price is much better than the Magnums:  http://www.mototourinc.com/mototourinc_files/valkyrie-cruiser-mirrors.htm

I understand what you're saying, but I tried every possible adjustment to my short arm Magnums and still could not get the mirror glass high enough on the right without turning the mount and lowering my brake lever.

I think I'll order the pair Farther posted, 3 X 5" is good size..... I wish the arms were a tad longer, but for that price they look good.  I have to find out if they are convex glass....flat glass is not sat for me.

There is a good chance that your stock mirror arms can be used if they are longer than the ones in the link I posted.
