My bike isn't either.  2funny  I'm thinking it's about time to check the valves, they haven't been touched since around 12k miles, I'm closing in on 50k. Idle has become a bit slower than usual, and at idle sounds like one cylinder is "poofing" a bit, you can hear it quite easy. Also have a bit of a click on both sides that comes and goes, depending on engine temp mostly. Guess maybe it's time to give it a good going over, haven't really done that is quite some time. It still will copy the hind legs of a dog.

Haul ass......  Wink

Valves, then a carb synch.

The new electronic gizmos are doing a better (and quicker) job than the old fluid in the long hoses on a board tool.

Casey, I'm old...not a pro.  Wink  I'm not getting any exhaust that would indicate need of new seals and have no oil usage, however my fuel consumption has increased slightly. Really don't want to pull the carbs but if needed......

When done I might come calling for a carb sync.  Wink If I do, I might set it up with my TwinMax then check it with your doodad just to see how accurate the TM is.

Valve adjustment would not be the first thing on my list.

Be sure to tell Lesa I would never, nor have the desire to, encroach upon those "sovereign" rights. Grin Been awhile since I've seen you guys, hope all is well up yonder.

I guess 'poofing' through one carb could be caused by a very tight intake valve adjustment, but not likely. Do you think it is always the same carb or can it be moving around ?
I would check the battery, cables, and alternator output before I tore into anything.

Exhaust stud bolt nuts tight?

They could cause the "poof" and ticking.

Well, as with most of my problems I've found the culprit: ME!  Recall a few days ago I was talking about my ride at idle it just seemed to roll over rather than run smooth. And, I had noticed the gas gauge moving rather quick paired with some rather strong exhaust at times. Fast forward to a couple days ago when all that nasty weather came through. I backed the bike out and pulled back in closer to my 1200, thereby making room for the SUV to be moved into the garage and out of possible damage from predicted hail possibility. When I started the bike I reached for the choke since it had been a little cooler and that's when I discovered the last time I took the bike out I hadn't shut down the choke....it was close to halfway open. I took the bike around the block and it behaved like I'm used to it behaving. I seldom have to use the choke so when I do I have to actually remind myself to shut it down.....except this time. But it proves one thing about my choke lever mod, after at least ten years or more it still stays where put it. If Honda was still making these bikes, I'd sell them my plans, might make enough off it for a cup of coffee.  Grin  It's the lever with the black knob, no more busted cable from the handlebars down.

Good one Harry, first time I've done something like that on the Valk.  Embarrassed Sure was a relief to feel it smooth out and run like I'm used to.

Yes Dennis, when I was flying I always used a checklist, never seemed to use one when riding though. Maybe as the years pass I should give it some thought....if I can remember to do that even.  Grin
