Out with the old...in with the wooohoooo!!!!

Ottawa, Ontario

« on: January 28, 2017, 03:36:21 AM »

It sure has been quiet on the forum for the last week or so.  I decided to start a conversation to see what trips you all have planned for this year.

Here is a list of our trips.

June - We are going to Magog Quebec and surrounding area
June - We are going to Connecticut to visit some friends for the weekend
July - We are going to ride the Route 97 along the Delaware River in NY
Aug - We are going to a Can Am Spyder event in Kingston Ontario.  We are helping out with the event.
Sept - We are going to Lake George NY.  Another Spyder Event that we are helping out with.
Oct - We are leisurely riding up to Mont Laurier Quebec, then over to Mont Tremblant and then back home

As you can see, we have a full slate of rides to do this year as well as our normal weekend rides around our area, so we are itching to get back out on the bikes.  I have them both ready to go except for oil changes which I will do in March after our cruise to the Bahamas.  :cool dude:

Sooooo.....what do you guys have slated?

well , I do not  have a RDL seat , so , I am limited to short trips of 45 minutes or less

Honestly , hungryeye suggested using a trailer  for long distances  and that's what I plan on doing , may work better for me
If I could , I'd have someone follow me in a suv  with alll my stuff in place of using a trailer .

Naw , doing the trailer thing seems better , I can unload the Kerry and  ride around and then load her back up and move on to a different location and do the same thing

Not to many week long trips, mostly just long (3 maybe 4 day) weekends.

I see you plan on riding RT97 in NY.. I'm about 1hr away. Shoot me a PM as date gets closer and remind me. Maybe we'll meet up and I can show you some nice twisty roads in that area.
The RT97. area has some great riding.

Hawks Nest area of RT97 and my Kawasaki C14.

Yeah, that's why I ride motorcycles, so that I can trailer them around.  Shocked Roll Eyes

That sounds good.

We would probably stay in Newburgh on the Saturday night, do the 97 on the Sunday and then start to make our way home on Monday.

We are heading to Big Bend National Park in late May (whether I have the new cowls and fairing done or not - sure hope they're done - that would be a good test).  There's about a thousand miles on the route we have planned thus far.

And, as usual, in late September/early October we will do our ten-day tour of New Mexico with, perhaps, a little side trip into either Arizona or Colorado.

Then many weekend trips in between the May and September/October rides.  Little jaunts of 200 to 400 miles.

Love it!

Ya, starting plans for a good trip late July to early August. Me my brother and a friend (that bought my old 1998 Valkyrie) are planning leaving Chicago area going around Iinto Indiana, up into Michigan, towards Detroit,  cross over up into Canada, follow along the top of the lakes, go take a look at Niagara Falls, before crossing back into the USA into Buffalo NY, then sadly,  follow along the bottom of the lakes as we head back towards home. We plan on not doing more than like 250 miles a day to enjoy the sites. 2 years ago we did the loop up and around lake Michigan, so this will be to the north east loop. We like to stop in smaller towns and get a good breakfast, at a local dinner before riding that day. Should be fun since we didn't take any cross states trip last year.

I'm hoping for this year...

Leave Louisiana headed towards Oregon... see the Redwoods.
Continue towards the coast... ride HWY 101 down the coast.
Continue to HWY 1 in California... rode more coast.
Stop off in San Francisco... see Alcatrez.
Head back towards Louisiana... Maybe stop off at the Grand Canyon?? (Time permitting.)

Of course, there will be wine tastings and such along the way (evenings only, when riding is finished).
And whatever else catches my eye along the way.

A couple of us riders in Manitoba are planning a 24 in 24, 2400 kms in 24 hours.  That entails a ride June 18th from Pembina, N.D. to Baton Rouge La., leaving at midnight and hoping to arrive before 11:59 pm. that day.  Patriot Ride in Ham Lake, Mn in July.

Wayne that is a pretty tall order.  You have to be doing a consistent 100km/h for 24 hours.  I am not sure that is sustainable unless you guys plan on driving 130-150 kph for most of that time. You still need to eat, go to the bathroom, fuel up and get some rest.  I am not sure I would want to drive at night tired and doing 130kph+.  Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Have fun.  Cheesy

Well in June Billings  MT 2200 miles each way.

If you're going that far... may as well take a few extra hours and cross over Bear Tooth Pass (starting at Red Lodge) and head into Yellowstone.

Bear Tooth will be open by June.
