Colorado is turning cold. The Gerbing works good but may need a little more. Hey I'm pushing 50 here. Ready to trade a little coolness for comfort 1) anyone using those hand deflectors have an opinion on how good they work? 2) anyone recommend places to purchase said items, air wings and deflectors? 3) do they make airwings in Polycarbonate as opposed to a more breakable acrylic?

I have the hand deflectors there OK I put them on for the cool weather, they don't make your hands sweat. They keep the direct wind off my hands. Far as wind deflectors they are all made of Polycarbonate.

According to Baker's website, only the light smoke air wings for the Valk are made from break-resistant polycarbonate; the rest are made from acrylic plexiglas. Incidentally, I also have the National Cycle hand deflectors - and find they're reasonably good at protecting your mitts from wind, rain, and bugs. Baker never seems to mark their products down, so I'd wait until Honda DirectLine has a sale and snag a set at a slight discount. Terry

Another way to dress up your Bakers.... the Valkyrie with the Honda shield and a set of bakers give better protection than the Gl1800 wing. Click: Baker Finials

I've got a set of Bakers I recently removed from my Std. that are 99% perfect. Clear panels with the uppers. Being clear, they kind of disappear...not as noticeable.

I have baker air wings on my Tourer they work great in cold and hot weather. For the hands I found some nylon hand deflectors in ATV parts at Fleet Farm they are held on with strapps so on and off in no time.

So did I, actually. Perhaps this applies only to windshields or things in the driver's line of sight? Terry

Terry http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=33I don't think it is plexiglass per se, rather the most common kind of plexiglass isn't up to snuff... They make a blend at clearview that passes the requirements... -Mike

So are you offering them for sale or what? Yes, I would sell them. I thought that someone who might be interested in a pair of Bakers that look like New that are for a Std. or Tourer, would send me a note inquiring about a price that would save them about $50 or more. Whoever ends up with them will be very happy. Since I put those pods on the Std, I don't have any use for them.

I have both on my 98 Tourer and like them, they seem to work well. Just replaced the plastic parts (airwings) with new poly from Baker. Old plexi were cracked. Just bought a I/S and the Tourer has less wind in the face at least feels like that to me. I/S has fork and fairing deflectors but no airwings, but will soon. Don't think hand deflectors would do much but will try the ones off the Tourer and see what they feel like.

I got'em both and both work well...I've said it before if I could have only one accessorie on my bike it would be the Baker Air Wings. You can get polished stainless steel covers here http://www.carolinabikeandtrike.com/Deflectors%201.htm

There is the cheap stuff is usually called lexan.. Good for paterns and decorations.. Then there is regular plexiglass.. Shatters very easy.. Good for window repairs and such! Then there is the good stuff.. shatterproof, a bit more expensive.. Good for windshields, safety glasses, aircraft windows..(not windshields) and many other areas where you neeed protection from flying things.. All of the types can be made rigid or flexible depending on the thickness. They can also be tinted and etc.. I got this information from a glass repair shop....

Nice wheels Steve! Q, what sort of seat and backrest is that? Seat is a Ultimate "King" and a Utopia back rest. IMO it has to be the best setup. That is the wife's ride now. My I/S has a "Big Boy" with the earlier Ultimate back rest. One day I will get a King and Utopia for it also.

It is bolted on using the same 2 bolts that hold the front of the rear seat on. It will not work with a Big Boy. The back of the Big Boy seat is too high...fat. The back of the King seat slopes backwards at a lesser angle...like the original seat...so that the rear of the seat will slip under the bend in the Utopia bracket. I think it would be great if Utopia made a lower bracket to work with the Big Boy. I'm sure they could sell a few.

Is it the same setup as Steve said with the bracket bolting to the rearseat mount points? ** Sorry to anyone if it appears I highjacked this thread, that was not my intent.

Really ??? ......I never actually tried it. I have read here many times how the back of a Big Boy wouldn't fit into that bend of the Utopia bracket. Guess I need to go out in the garage and check that out. There was someone here several weeks ago that was going to try and bend a lower Utopia bracket to fit with a Big Boy. I didn't see if he posted his results. I have never been happy with the little backrest on my Big Boy. It's an earlier model with the square post.
