Need a new CT since the Vredstien wont make another summer trip. Looking at the Yokohama Avid Envigar. Also comes in a runflat but not sure how it would be on a bike. Thoughts?
I like the Vredstien but like my favorite Hankook K-106 its discontinued. I like a "V" pattern in the tire. Seems to be more stable then ones with a 'strip' down the center. Let me know!  cooldude

Hey Brian,
I have put several Avid Envigors on my bike.  I usually get at least 20k out of them...this last tire has 30k on it and I still have a few thousand left on it  (I think they changed the formula a little for it to last longer in the centers).  I will probably change it out before GOTF though.  Has really good traction in wet and dry and since it has the rounded shoulders, it lays over nice and even.  I will probably continue to run this tire until it is no longer available.

I've had the Yokohama Avid Envigor on my IS for a few thousand miles now and really like it. Not quite like a MC tire, but close enough for me. Ask for P/N 32122.

I see it comes in a run flat. I wonder if it would be to stiff or about the same?

How is it on width?  I had trouble with a triple tread rubbing, and want to get a thinner tire.  I'm not talking about one that's spec'd as thinner, just one that tends to be a little thinner.  I'm just looking at a TINY difference here.

(Yes, I did all the shaving mods available.  No dice.)

I know guys have run run-flats, but it seems to me you want a normal all season radial sidewall so it flexes in the turns.  Aren't run flat sidewalls pretty stiff?  And won't that make the CT counter-steer (a little, or a lot) more work?

I have not tried/ridden on one, I don't know.

That's kinda what I was thinking also. Hoped to hear from someone that has one.

OK, this is gonna be stupid! We see I used this tire size or that tire size but not much said about what size tires DON'T need the nut cage mod. I think I'm going with the Envigor,  and the dealer will install it along with rear end service at the same time.

I'm certain they won't let me do the mod while they change the tire. I only want to do this once without a rub issue. So, thus my "stupid" question, what size Envigor will not rub on my 98 Tourer?

Maybe only a 195, but I'm not really sure about that either.  There's enough differences between individual bikes some may rub and others may not (we're talking millimeters here).  Not many have run 195's; maybe someone who has will speak up.

The only CT I'm pretty sure won't rub no matter what with the cages in place is the 175 Austone Taxi tire. (stock is a 180)  That is a well liked (but a bit spendy) CT, that is still giving long CT miles.  But the Austone is tall tire, akin to a 65 in height.

If you're paying the whole job done, why not give them a copy of Dan Meyer's nut-cage mod and have them do it for you?  It's only a few minutes work (but it's not a bad idea to hit bare metal with some paint - rattle can), and tell them to use skinny hex nuts in place of the fat square nuts.  They don't have to pull the fender, just slide in and under when the tire is out.  Course, I'd talk it over with them beforehand.

Then you could just get a 205 60 or 55 tire anyway, if that's what you are wanting.

Rocketman,
I just ordered the Yoko mentioned in this thread.  The GTT I had mounted won;t hold air...  But, the old one is off the bike, so I found the adapter!
