use your favorite search engine for "Spicer Air Filter test".  k&n lets in a lot of dirt. it is a race track item that shouldn't be used on the street.
also u can search for used oil analysis with k&n filter, always shows high levels of dirt.
the OEM filer is the best filter to use and lasts much much longer than 12k miles unless all of your riding is on dirt roads or in sand storms.
I've dyno'd over 105 hp with OEM filter.

I've been know to remove the air filter at the correct service mileage and then use an air hose to "clean" it.

Unless I've been on a few of my occasional forest road jaunts in which case I will replace it cause it's FILTHY!

Even before they paved my road, my air filters were never all that
dirty at 10,000 miles...

I think it's interesting that most of the crud is always on one side (third) of the filter element, and the rest looks great.  At least on mine.  I guess the air box top intake is in back (so it doesn't suck water).

Not only does the OEM filter do a much better job for a reasonable price, it is so simple to replace.  Cleaning and re-oiling the K&N is a dirty, time consuming job.  I know, as I did it with past motorcycles.  Dropping a new Honda filter into the airbox is much easier.
