Got them on the bike today  while I had time , still need to connect  them to the proper wires on bike .
The amber are turn signals , of course .

I would lower them a little and add some light in the cowl blanks.

Well , now you have me worried , will probably try this from Skene lights http://www.skenedesign.com/lights/IQ_275.shtml
It dims the lights , if they can be dimmed , if I can not dim the light bar , I will use electrical tape  on the lens  to  black out some of the light  , ele tape allows no light to go through  it . So  I can reduce the amount of light  coming out  of the light bar .
Or , find some more plastic lens material  that I can cut up , shape  to place it over the  existing lens to dim the lights  .  These light bars are very very cheap  , I plan on them lasting a short time .

Wait and see what I have planned  for the rear  ,   a clamp mounted to the frame  under the rear fender with a bracket   coming out  with another light  bolted to it , not as big as the  front  lights  .
I am going for  safety with lots of added light

A thing that should be considered is what will happen if you drop the bike. One of the things I like about the Valk' is when I had a blond moment and dropped the girl the result was zero damage. Skid to a halt and go rolling across the road and zero damage? That little feature had me considering long and hard about the mounting of my lights and that is precisely why I don't have mine vertical but horizontal. Even if the lights are cheap crushing them into the bike may not be.

Placing them horizontal was my first idea and still is my preference and I may still do it that way .
The problem  is , sticking out too far , I can just see knocking them off  or banging them on something because I forgot they were there , could happen .
Some saddlebags  stick out as far as these would so why not ?
Placing them horizontal means going to a welder for a bracket  so they look nice , not a problem , really , just an extra step in the process   . Right now I am using  ugly  angle iron  from Ace  , you can not see it from the front , only from the side .

I do believe they would look really nice  horizontally

Yes , you are right , hungryeye  said the same thing  to me about dropping the bike , the lights may cause lots of damage
So , maybe a break away  bracket  is in order , lol

Looking at the photo I think you would be ok but just thought I would point it out bud. Like I said it was a consideration of mine after dropping my bike. I remember riding down the road another 10 minutes and pulling over and checking again... amazed at the zero damage. A feature I am not used to on a bike Smiley
