When I went to move the bike to where I wanted to park it, I'm pretty sure I heard the sound of a bad left wheel bearing. If I had a lift I think I could determine if it is or is not a bearing issue. Don't suppose anyone with a M/C jack is close by the Ocean Center? (a couple blocks N of main st)

Ok, thanks. I'm gonna take a better look at the brake caliper and pads in the morning. If that is good there really isint anything else but the wheel bearing. Then I lll call him

If it's wheel bearings and you can't find them up there , I have some along with the cut down spacer to do the double row on both sides....

I love to see the comaraderie within the VRCC and everybody's willingness to help out a Brotheren in need, great job Deb n Fred. I could have provided the bearings as well as a lift and garage to work in for future reference. Ride safe

Ok, so my phone was dead last night. I'm a bit more than half way home. I decided to leave Daytona a day early because of total lack of bikes in the parking lot.
I arrived at the church in the early afternoon on wed and the bike sat for a couple hours. When it came time go take her up to park is when our adventure started.
This is also the first and only time I have to say something good about riding without a helmet. I rode the bike to the upper part of the lot without my helmet and that is when I heard it. The distinct crunchy creak and crack of a failing wheel bearing.
The bike was still riding fine and if wasn't I without a lid I would never have picked up that little sound so early.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do. I knew I did not want to take it to the dealership. Then it hit me, post on the FL board and see what happens and boy was it fast. TJ tipped off Fred and gave me the number. One call and things were set in motion. And, by the time I got out to the bike there was another VRCC member (can't remember his name) offering to help as well. But Fred was already waiting for me.
So at Fred's house we got the wheel off and sure enough the bearing was toast. Off to Auto Zone for a bearing and to rent their slide hammer. Well that bearing was not coming out. The dude at Auto Zone told us to take it to Moto Magnifico @ 118N old country road in edgewater.
Michael there saved the day for us, three auto parts stores and various hammer configurations was not working for us. The pro (Michael) used a heat gun and penetrating oil and it came right out. He put the new one in too and all for $20
Didn't take long to get the bike all buttoned up and then Deb served up lunch.
I'm half way home and the bike is riding smoother than ever.
Thanks again to everyone!

Good end to the story. Just curious Jeff, was that the left (single row)) bearing? (The one that usually goes?) When mine grenaded in backwoods WVa, and I had to limp along for some 35 miles (at the lowest grinding speed of 32mph) (to get to a repair place), it almost fell out in pieces (and balls). My wheel/bearing pocket was fine, but it could have been otherwise.

However, since I caught it early it wasn't deformed at all came out looking like a good bearing well until you spun it. Grind grind grind. Not much life left in that one.

Glad to hear you got it going! Do you know the brand of the new bearing and number? If it's wheel bearings and you can't find them up there , I have some along with the cut down spacer to do the double row on both sides.... Excuse the nubie question but what is this about? I looked in the "Shoptalk" section and didn't see it there.

I'm really surprised Jeff. That bearing wasn't that old. I had it replaced a few years and not all that many miles ago. Glad your ok.
