My 99 CT..."Liahona"

Augusta, GA.

« on: March 21, 2017, 07:28:24 PM »

I have noticed that as I have been driving my 99CT, every once in awhile as I am in neutral at a stop light, then shift into 1st, I will hear the shifter fall into gear but lite goes off and on(neutral lite) and the bike is still in neutral....I have to hit it again and all goes well...This has only happened a couple times, but was wondering if I need to adjust something or replace something...It is rare, but it has happened and puts that 'what the heck' feeling in me as I am trying to get going as the stoplight changes...I need some ideas on what to expect...Thanks ya'll...!!!

A little more forceful on the shifter.

Also might want to move the shifter lever another notch, I think it's down (clock wise looking at it from the side).

My neutral sensor (or whatever) occasionally says I'm in neutral when I'm not.
It not only fools me, but the motorcycle too, and will try to start while in gear.

Trust me, this makes you look like a dork  Smiley

Mine too if I am too nice with the shifter.  And I always try to be nice with shifters.  I have the Rattlebars shifter on both my bikes too.

My trans goes clunk, but the light stays on.  I don't look at the light though, after hearing the clunk (it's not real bright on the interstate dash in sunlight).  Then I rev up and let the clutch out and go nowhere.  It can get even more embarrassing if you lift your feet up while going nowhere.  I've done this occasionally for years on both bikes.  That first gear clunk is often a liar.

One trick, is to pre-load the shifter.  Take all the slack out of the shifter first, then push down firmly (all with the clutch pulled in).

Another trick is to quit going to neutral at intersections.
