Shifter stem out of case has a lot of play, was informed that I should change the seal, put new one in play in stem is the same as with the old seal? It was also leaking a little, maybe new seal will fix that, but would like to be able to tighten up the stem! Can actually hear it rattle or vibrate going slow in 1st gear! Any idea barring taking the whole trans apart! Thanks, Jym...

Loose is normal for that. New seal should fix the leak...some have fabricated fancy brackets to hold the outer edge of the thing...but it's not necessary.

Change seal when needed...and ride it hard.
