Has anyone changed a float and float needle with the carbs still on the bike? I know i have heard of some replacing jets with them still on. I would think you would have to pull the float to get to the jets. It's been a couple years since i have had mine off and opened up.

The jets are easily removed without taking out the floats, if you are just changing jets I wouldn't remove the floats.
But if you are that far into the carb already, might be a good idea to remove the float and inspect the float needle, I guess it would depend on why you opened them up in the first place.

it hydrolocked on the #2 cylinder so i'm replacing the float and needle on that carb. i just didn't want to pull the carbs if it can be done without removing them.

Turns out you can replace float and float needle with them in place.  cooldude did it last night over a couple hours and a beer or 3. Now I have back firing on that side and smells really rich. Going to turn my mixture screws in to 1 3/4 and resync today. My pipes are really open so I dont think turning the screws in by 1/2 a turn will hurt
