they usually give themselves a little wiggle room for equipment error. I haven't seen the weather folks call for 100% chance of rain in a while, but today they are.  I think that I'm going to get wet.

Yeah, No kidding!

On our trip this past w/e it called for Sunny and 70 on the way up (350 miles).  It never got to 60 and we saw the Sun maybe the last 30 miles.
The next day supposed to be Sunny and 63, again I think the high was 53, not only cloudy but foggy/misty all day. Bad enough to where they grounded the planes at the Air show we went to.
On the way back the third day it was supposed to be 60-70% chance of rain almost the whole way.  Never hit a drop of rain and Sunny the last 100 miles!!

If we could've found out where this weatherman lives we would've toilet papered his house!!

I don't always rely on the weather folk at the tv station, but they nailed it today. I have yet to see it stop raining.

They did eventually reveal that they were only projecting 1/10 of an inch of rain to fall despite the fact that it is going to rain constantly. Most of the day felt more like a heavy fog than a true rain storm.

I rode in to work and my pant cuffs were wet, but they dried. My gloves were barely damp.

During a break I walked to the campus graveyard and chatted with a recently departed friend for a few moments and the rain didn't bother me. The grass was damp, but not enough to keep my from wandering off the path and standing for a moment by his grave. I wasn't able to be there yesterday because I was at a funeral for my wife's great aunt, so I'm not sure much would have kept me away from spending a moment visiting my old friend today.

Sure, it's raining, but all things considered...not a bad day.

I'd rather be riding in this cloud spit than siting in here preparing handouts for Friday on the computer. But here I sit.

If it is a 100% chance of rain then there is no chance. Right?

BPC, cooldude
I didn't even think about that as they were saying it this morning. That is one of the things I would typically catch. Must have not had enough sleep last night.

We blew off a ride a couple weeks ago due to "100% chance of heavy rain".  We didn't see a drop till Sunday night and our destination (San Antonio area) saw only slightly more. I calls them "weather guessers".

you're nicer than me...i'm stickin' with weather TURDS.

this last weekend is CLASSIC example....classic. The weather "Ts" ....called for :

  • 80% chance Friday night....heavy storms predicted, 1-2 inches - WE GOT...15 minutes of rain late in the evening..maybe half an inch?
  • 90% chance Saturday....rain starting in the morning...heavy all day - WE GOT...NO RAIN, ZERO. we canceled a planned fishing 'trip' for Saturday morning (canceled late Thursday)....with all the NCOs from the base from my office...they were coming out to catch fish for an office fish fry we're having this week. based on the weather "forcast" (i use that term with hesitation)...we decided it was better to move the fishing trip to Monday...more on that below
  • 80% chance Saturday night - WE GOT....zero again..
  • 70% chance Sunday - you guessed it....WE GOT....zero....yet again
  • 60% chance Sunday night - eh..........yep........WE GOT....ZERO.........do you see a pattern here?
  • then finally, they CHANGED the forcast to  NEAR 100% for Monday (they NEVER say 100% here....it goes from 90% to near 100% ...but NEVER 100%...the wiggle room factor, i guess?) - and of course, now that the Military guys go to the trouble to come out to my place to fish the ranch...with all their fishing gear and bait - WE GOT....rain all day...finally!

in fact, Sherry and i went riding on Saturday....even though...they said it would be 90% chance of rain all day ...and heavy rain. We rode the Valks all around...went shopping ....riding between three cities....even went to eat lunch at Hooters and watched  an hour or so of the Auburn football game (bummer, they lost). rode back home....hung out by the pool a bit....called the guys from the office and said "silly us, we should have known not to plan something...or cancel something...based on the WEATHER FORCAST!"  and then fished in the rain all day monday because of it  Cheesy

oh, that fish fry/office party? It's TOMORROW. weather Turds say 70% chance of rain. WE AINT CANCELING THIS TIME. fool me once............. Grin cooldude

I met a Navy meteorologist who expressed that exact sentiment.

ok...i'm NOT trying to defend the Weather "T"s....but....i am a Weather Spotter for NOAA and a Ham Radio Operator (K4TK). In one of my classes/training one time, finally one Weather T admitted it is NOT much of a science. His analogy...and i like this one....is....trying to predict WHEN and WHERE it will rain, is like trying to watch a pot of water you have on the stove....and....predicting WHEN and WHERE in the pot....the first bubble will appear as it reaches boiling. IE...........it simply can't be done.

so, as an Engineer (i'm an EE)....that's my complaint about the Weather Ts. Stop giving me these forcasts with so much detail "heavy rain starting in the morning....a line of showers moving in south of I-20 after 1000 AM, 90% chance...then..............blah, blah, etc, etc"  Instead, just say "50/50...it MAY rain". Then i'll cut you some slack  Roll Eyes

the other thing they used as an EXCUSE in that training i took as a weather spotter...is that the NOAA forcast if for the "listening area". So, they rationalize, it may not rain in YOUR SPECIFIC area. Again, my complaint with that BS excuse...is that often, it rains nowhere in the dang state, let alone the "listening area".....when they give these 70, 80 and 90% chance of rain forcasts.

Weather Turds/Experts. Can't live with em'.....can't kill em'  Shocked
