http://www.veldhuizencheese.com/

MarcusS and several others expressed interest in touring Veldhuisen Cheese located in Dublin. Normally they do tours on Saturday morning around 10:30. If you are coming from the Houston area that would mean a very early departure. 5 Hours from Houston and about 2-3 hours from DFW area.  The tour cost $4-5. If there is enough interest .....say at least 10 people......they would be willing to do a tour in the afternoon say around 2:30pm on May 27. This is on a Saturday. For those of you that want to turn this into a 2-day trip I have plenty of camping space. Otherwise there are plenty of motels in the surrounding area.

Other attraction that might be of interest besides nice roads are the Dr pepper museum and Old Doc's Soda shop in Dublin, Hard8 BBQ, Koffee kup in Hico (think dessert), Billy the Kid Museum in Hico.

So mark your calendar for the weekend of May 27 and 28.

5_19 Do you know the owner DIPIN PATEL of the RELAX INN in Dublin? Place looks like what I am willing to pay.  Would me nice if we could get a flat $50 day rate. I may come up Friday and leave Sunday morning.   Anyone else looking for a place to do a triple s? If we get half a dozen rooms we can use that to negotiate a good rate.

Motel options for Dublin during Memorial Day weekend are:

---Relax Inn still has rooms available. 478-296-1223
---Central Inn still has rooms 254-445-2138. FYI This would be my preference.

You can also check in Stephenville for motels. LaQuinta, Holiday Inn, Best western, Motel6 just to name a few.

As far as rates is concerned.......I do not have time to negotiate group rates or discounts with motels. Everybody needs to make their own arrangements for lodging.

If you would like to camp I have plenty of tent space, water and a bathroom available.

LOL...I sure hope that snow melts.  Smiley. Weather permitted (for you Coloradians if the snow melts) are you still bringing 3-4?

How about this?  Meet at 10am at 114 and 35W near the speedway.  Take a leisurely route to Strawn, have lunch at Mary's Cafe, then down to Dublin?

Meet-up, Schedule of event kind of thing.

-----For those that are arriving on Friday: You are invited for dinner at my place around 6-7 pm. We will wait for the Colorado guests to arrive. PM me for address and directions.

---Saturday morning we can meet for breakfast at Granny Clarks (213 N Patrick St, Dublin, TX). I am willing to do a guided tour down some of the best paved (or unpaved Evil if requested) back roads this area has to offer after breakfast. KSU at 8:30 am (or later that just cuts into riding time) and we will be leaving from Granny Clarks, Dublin.

For lunch we can meet back up in Dublin at the Back Roads Grill located at 231 S Patrick St, Dublin, TX  at about noon-isch and leave from there to Veldhuizen Cheese. The Dr Pepper museum and old Doc's Soda Shop is one block over from Back Roads Grill. Cheese tour starts at 2:00 pm. These are merely suggestions. Lets hear it and if I like it we will change the plan.

Ron, I'll see you and Chris at 10am.

TJ, what's the address of the Cheese Factory?  Or do you just want us to meet you at the restaurant  (but we won't eat)?

Thanks TJ for an enlightening experience at the Veldhuizen Cheese Factory. Spending the evening at your home and tanking up on fajita chicken by the Mrs was even better, wish I could have gotten there on Friday as planned.

A BIG thank you to everybody that came to Veldhuizen Cheese. It made for a great weekend!  Smiley.

Even though  I live real close I personally have never taken the cheese tour. It was very interesting to learn how they make about 12 different cheese from cows milk and even started making one from sheep's milk. Because the milk is not pasteurized and never gets over 98 Fdeg they have to go thru a different process before they can sell the finished product. The cheese has to cure for at least 60 days at a certain temperature and turn over twice a day. I for one have a whole new respect for these specialty cheese makers. It takes a lot of work, dedication, capital and determination to make it work.
