All of you gurus out there. Went to a gas station on my tourer next to my house everything fine. Got some gas, turn the key on, no light on speedo and tach, the headlight and cobra light bar light were out too, no prior warning. Anyway, I hit start button and fired right up as I am about to turn on my street it started running rough like it needs to switch to reserve and it just died. My turn signals and brake light are still working. The bike wants to start but no throttle power. Pushed it in thre garage and checked all fuses including the funky looking 55 fuse, all good. Brand new alternator installed less than 3 years. Could it be a ground or an alternator this new went south?? Good thing I have the interstate to ride. Help is  appreciated

Kind of sounds like a corroded main ground to me.

I would start with battery voltage at rest and running, battery connections. The battery ground connects to the engine block and then the block has a ground wire to the frame which causes trouble. The frame has the coils and such that need a good ground. Find your light troubles and you will probably fix your engine trouble. Sounds electrical to me so far.

Where's the main ground on the frame exactly. Does bike need to be jacked up?

I'm not aware of a frame ground. The ground I would check and clean is on the back, bottom of the motor. Kind of behind the alternator. I don't think you need to jack it up, actually might make it harder to get to.

Well Since my Brake and turns work and the bike turn over wanting to start but no throttle I thought I check the starter relay fuse and it was good, put it back together tight and fired right up no issues, lights on and bike running just fine now, I guess the connection was loose. I learned to start with the basics, this time it worked. I was lucky I guess. Thank you all for the help.

I know you've resolved it, and the bike is currently running.

Except for the running out of fuel, I was thinking the starter switch. It may not be returning fully to the off position. Either way, with a non IS model, you should think about some maintenance on the switch. It's posted in Shop Talk.
