Surely you I/S guys have had this issue... chrome fuel cap glare on windshield right at eye level. Makes it hard to see and very distracting... I know that changing the shield could fix this but, hoping there's another cheaper option.

I have seen a tank bib with leather tank cap but, really dont want a bib. Hate to cover that nice red paint.

Any thoughts?

I see guys complaining of the glare a lot. It's never bothered me for some reason. I guess it's because I look over the shield. But anyway, to answer your question. We have a member that makes some quality leather products. One of them is a fuel cover. He was at the Spearfish Inzane. I hope I'm getting his name right, I think it was Clint. Hopefully someone will post up a link.

Stock shield? If so, how tall are you? PRETTY sure I'm running stock. I'm 6' and look through at about 4" below edge.

At 6' with a stock windshield you should looking at least 3 - 4 inches over it.  Most likely you have a tall windshield like from Clearview or one of the other manufacturers.

I run a cee bailey 2" shorter than stock. I'm about 6'1" and top of shield is about nose height.

Polarized shades/glasses helps.  Depending on what eye wear you have (correction?), you may be able to buy some cheapo polarized clip-ons, for cheap.

Take the cap off and get it powder coated with a non glare finish/color (keep tiny screws out of tank).

If the shield is really too tall, and the glare high, cut it down (on the bike).

I have one bike with the old Heritage bib (weathered paint), the other (nearly perfect paint) has no bib, and it has only bothered me a few times.  My new one-inch shorter clearview (lucite-plastic) has even less glare than the old OE (polycarbinate) shield.  It's also much clearer to look through.

I can't post pictures at this time but all my bikes have gas cap covers made by Clint. They are Great and quality workmanship.

With Clint, you can get just a cap cover...

I've got a Talisman bib, Talisman is a VRCC site supporter...

I have that problem with the glare. I just take a bandanna and cover my gas cap and took the ends underneath my tank bib. Obviously that only works if you have a tank bib.

I think you're right. I saw a couple  of windshield posts that suggested getting wider than stock if you replace. My shield runs almost to the edge of my faring so wider than stock would be like a car windshield  I can't seem to post pics at the moment but will try to get a close-up posted later.

Thanks for all of the replies guys!

No, it's the wider shield. When I bought the bike it was too tall for me and I cut it down. I'm only 5'10". It rarely rains or snows here, but I've travelled places where it does. I HATE having to stretch to look over the shield in icing conditions. (Plus, I just like looking over the shield regardless) For me the optimum height is right about upper lip height.

One of Clint's gas cap covers.  I have a similar one on Deerslayer.  He has any number of designs or he will custom make whatever.

BTW, I didn't have the glare problem - I tipped my windshields down so the reflection is out of sight - also I look over the shield.  I just like Clint's stuff, as well as supporting his business.

I think he would be OK with posting his email - it's clintsdivco@aol.com His LLC registered business is Clint's Leather Art LLC based out of Independence MO.  He sponsors the club especially Inzane rallies. Also attends other events like the GOTF and stops in at Colorado gatherings.

Damn, that's a great idea for a temp solution. Hadnt thought of that. Still thinking about Clints cap cover option but when I saw your comment, it was a "duh..." moment for me.

Thanks!
