I seem to remember you posting some kind of cool matrix show dimensional differences between tire sizes.  I cannot find the thread.

When I get a new set of Michelins, I am thinking of getting a 190 55R instead of the 180....Will the 190 size be taller or shallower? (sidewalls)

Thanks! cooldude

Here you go my friend

https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=130-60r19-120-70r19

Just input the tire sizes and let it do the calculations and comparisons.

The sidewall height will be higher which is why I didn't want to change the size. How come you are considering this since there are so many tires in the oem size already?

The rear tire never concerned me since its a standard size with many options available. I hate the front though since the the size limits the tire selection. It really didn't have to be this way since if you do a comparison to the wing tire the outside circumference is basically the same. So if they had gone for smaller rim size we could have had a much wider selection of tires.

You know you could go for the Pirelli with the stock rear size and the 120/70/19 front. It got some really high ratings by those who had the Michelin's before.

Adrian,

While you will most likely be happier that the 190/55-17 will be about the same width in appearance as the stock Dunlop, you will not be happy with mileage returns.

Since the tire is actually intended for a 6 inch rim you will find that the tire is more bloated or high in the center. This will result in the bike turning in normal and then having a feeling of falling into the turn at a certain lean point.

I cannot confirm as of yet, but the mileage on mine is most likely going to be a little lower than the 180/55-17 I ran before this. Again this will be due to the high center tread or bloated appearance oif the tire.

This has been my observations so far.

I thought about a 190/55 but after research decided against it.
Although it will mount on a 5-1/2" wide rim a 6" is the preferred size.
My thoughts were, what you described my be the results.  Thanks again for sharing yours. (results)

I'm shopping for a rear tire now, have a newer PR4 Trail on the front so I'll go with the PR4 rear again. I get about 4,000 mi. before wear bars show on the Mich..

I'm thinking next set I'll try the Pirelli's.  (180/55)

Not for sure but try the PR4 Gt not just the PR4  the GT is a stronger tire and may get you more mileage.

About $15.00 more for the GT. Maybe I'll give it a try.  cooldude

All my Michelins have been of the GT variety. I got 4K out of the 180/55-17 and am currently at a little shy of 3k and will be pushing it to get the same mileage out of the 190/55-17 I have on the bike now.

I have not decided which tire I will try next but it may be a Dunlop Roadsmart 3 or a Pirelli.
