Just replaced my burnt Starter Sw. Relay with a new Relay(5-13-17), but did the Mod ( where you take the Red wire and place it directly on the "Dog Bone"...Works great...Was riding today in the 92* weather and after parking it for a couple hours, went to start her (99CT) and got the "Clank" as it was a Hydrolock...Tried again...another "Clank"...put into 1st and rocked bike...back to neutral...hit starter and if started...ran great...after an hour when I got back from running around, went to start it again and "Clank"...then tried to start again and it started right up...Question is, does the Starter Sw. Relay Mod. have any thing to do with this or is it a Hydrolock symptom starting to happen (just redid the carbs and replaced the petcock two weeks ago...wondering if the heat has any affect on the carbs or what...???

Fuel valve on or off when parked? Was there any smell of raw fuel? seem to run rich when first started?

I Always turn the Petcock off when I turn the engine off...Today I went out to start the bike and she started right up...strong gas smell...fuel dripped out of the left exhaust weep hole...So I have to take carbs off again...No problem...at least I don't have all those vacuum hoses to mess with any more...!!!

If you moved the red wire from the red connector on the starter relay to the 55 amp dogbone , then you have eliminated the 30 amp fuse on the starter relay. I would not do that! Remember, the red wire powers the entire bike. This could be a disaster.

What!! The word CLANK (clunk) is the classic sound of a hydro lock. DO NOT PRESS the starter again! If you do (which you did) you risk breaking teeth on your starter gears in the back of the engine.

Now either it wasn't the classic clank, but the word you used, or it was. If it was, it must have not been enough to lock the engine, but only to hold it back.

You should have removed all the spark plugs, and in a safe place, pressed the starter again. Fuel can squirt for feet out the hole. Caution for fire.

There are a lot of posts under hydro lock. Also look for broken gear.

Hey Indybobm...I put an inline 30a fuse on the Red wire...forgot to mention that part of the Mod...Also, didn't see any teeth busted on the gears...!!! So there is just the carbs to mess with...!!!

If you are hydrolocked and hit the starter again the engine will not turn over let alone start. Hydrolocked refers to the state of the engine due to one of the cylinders being full of liquid.
