Good morning all,

I have a problem with my front brake switch staying on with my Interstate.  I have the adjustable Kuryakyn grips and they have been working fine for several years.  This year,  after removal found that after I applied the front brake,  it seems the grip doesn't return to the off position.  I have taken it all apart and regreased the bushing and still doesn't disengage completely.  I can easily move it back to off by hand.  The bushing doesn't appear to be worn.  I have ordered a new switch but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Brad, you are not alone in this issue of a delay in release of the front brake light switch after switching over to the Kury adjustable levers.

Look through this link, and esp the extra comments added at the bottom by Bo Roop. 

I had the same issue myself (and did not know it was happening until a guy behind me complained about me staying on the brakes so long after every hard curve).  It's been years and years, so I don't recall the exact details, but just tightening up the bolt does not do it.  I think I did a little filing on the adjustable brake lever, and cleaned (but did not replace) my brake switch.  Over the years, it's pretty clear that Kuryakyn chrome often has to be filed down here and there for proper fit and part function.

BTW, just so you know, I have long since gone back to the non adjustable wide chrome Kuryakyn levers.  The reach on those (though not adjustable) is shorter than stock, and about the same as the middle or so of the adjustable levers.  I never set my adjustables at the shortest reach, because I was not sure I was getting full clutch disengagement, and I want my front brakes to lock if I tell them to.

The difference in reach between the non adjustable wide Kury levers and the 2d to shortest reach on the adjustables is negligible, and I never had the delayed front brake light switch release issue with (several sets of) the non adjustables.

And the wide non adjustable levers are fatter and more comfortable than the adjustables.

And I have pretty small hands.

I had to build up the contact surface of the lever where it touches the microswitch  button.  About 5-6 layers of aluminum tape cut into a small square did the trick several years ago.

I had the same issue with the adjustable Kuries on my IS. Actually, the brake lights ignite when the switch is released, and go off when the switch button is pushed. The return spring isn't strong enough to always make the lever push that button all the time, so your brake lights stay on.

I got some 'steel paste' (two part goo that when mixed makes a malleable wad that adheres to most surfaces and hardens like rock). Once set I sanded it down in steps until the light worked properly.
