I rode the other day and on the way home my clutch lever felt different, like too much movement before the start of engagement. I checked the clutch fluid level and found it low. I flushed new dot 4 through the clutch, front and rear brakes, changed rear pads, ended up doing complete rear maintenance a few thousand miles early as I had the rear wheel off. By the way: I always replace brake and clutch fluid when doing brake pad service.

Rode again and all is well, been looking at the clutch slave for drips and found none. Today I looked and cleaned the slave area better and now see the paint under the slave distorted. Guess its time to repair the slave.

I have a center stand which looks like it will have to come off along with the side stand so I probably need to buy a front wheel chock to hold the bike upright. I do not have a motorcycle lift either as I always use the center stand. Any tricks here?

Looking at the parts diagram, I see the oil seal to the clutch cover is right there in front. Should I order that also and will I need anything special to remove and install, or do you leave it alone until clutch replacement?   Thanks for any help!!

I just rebuilt my clutch slave on an 01 I bought. I had to remove the side stand to get one of the bolts out, tried to back it out as far as it would go but the sidestand bracket was in the way, you might be able to just loosen it to get a little more clearance.

I put jackstands under the front crash bars, makes it very sturdy to work on, then slid several 2x6's under the rear wheel, this was enough ground clearance to work under there.

I bought all the seals including the one in the back of the case where the pushrod comes through, don't forget the sealing washers for the line.

Its a real easy job, take your time, the seals pop out easy, don't forget to grease the pushrod. Use some clean fluid for reassembly.
