I'm reading an instruction link provided here and the gentleman instructs to pull the bulb housing-- the the rubber boot Etc.
My question is: is there a release on that outer wired housing-- or do you just pull it straight out? Mine won't budge ( either side) and I don't want to break something.
Appreciate any help! JC

Rubber cap and then you will see the spring clip thingy-tech term-under the rubber cap. There ar 4 bolts that hold the fairing onto the frame. Two of the bolt holes are slotted Two of the bolt holes aren't. Loosen all 4 bolts and roll the fairing forward. Snug up the unslotted bolt holes. I can NOT git these 72 year old arthritic hands behind the fairing without rolling it. I found pictures on this forum to show me what I needed to know the first time I went behind the firing. RIDE SAFE,

That wire, think safety pin! You press down on it, and move it to the side, and it releases.

I was able to get my hand in to release it, and pull out the bulb. But I got my sister with her skinny girly hands to place the new bulb in, and re-clip the wire.

It is easier to remove the fairing, then change the bulb. At least I can do it myself.

I'm talking about the first step in the process-- to remove the black housing before you get to the spring clip. It won't release...

black housing?

You grasp the plug connector that is plugged into the bulb, and pull/wiggle it off.

Then you grasp the rubber tab on the dust seal.

Then that wire release.

page 19-3 on the service manual shows the best I could find, showing the head light bucket.

Just replaced mine and removing the electrical connector was the hardest part.  I sprayed both of mine with some contact cleaner and let sit over night and then I just had to work them off.  They are tight for a reason.  If you've got big hands it can be difficult.
