I put in a day maker headlight last night. must have turned it on 15 times. all adjusted.it was cold and rainy so waited for today. worked fine for the first little bit (day one). I took a couple of rides. first a trip to home depot,5 there and 5 back. the other for pleasure. about a 30 min round trip. then no light .hmm. took it out and hooked up original headlight, no light? all the other lights work just fine. the day maker was a 40 watt. I don't know electrical.  I can change a bulb or fuse and that's about my limit.  since I bought the bike used I have no manuals. is there a fuse?

My guess would be starter switch.

back in and yes my starter switch seems to be an issue. I don't know why I tried to start it but I did and as soon as I touched the switch the light came on.. I turned the key off and on a few times sometimes it was fine others I had to jiggle bump it. Now what?
thanks for the heads up on the fuses cooldude

If it's just old and dirty, but not damaged, you can take it apart and clean it. Once it is apart, you can tell if the contacts are burned or pitted, in which case replacement may be needed. I was able to clean mine; now I have the BonS Smart Switch, to take the current load off the switch.

Careful with the switch. The small spring inside will leap into a worm hole never to be seen again if you're not careful.
