For me The Dragon was a let-down. 30 MPH speed limit / police presence (partly due to a fatality the week prior), young wanna-be racers all over the place. Could not wait to get off that 11 mile stretch of road. Avoid riding it during the weekend if possible. Mid-week before noon is the least crowded/least patrolled.
I prefer high speed sweeper/twisty roads with little to zero police presence. Cherohala Skyway was the bomb. Road it several times up/back. TN 68 was great also. Jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway if you can. I stayed in Helen, GA, a neat little German-themed town. Used Helen as a base to explore the many awesome roads in that area.
The Dragon? I'll skip next time. You may love it.

+1 on the Cherohala Skyway, definitely ride it both ways.
And almost any 2 lane in East Tennessee, West NC and Northern GA.

I think you've gotten some good feed back like the Cherahola Skyway but, you should do the Dragon once just to know you've done it. It doesn't take very long. It's one of the most well known motorcycle roads in our beautiful country.
There are very few bad roads there and the Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful. That is a must do!
I've done the Cherahola Skyway in a sports car and on a motorcycle a couple of times....Epic!
Enjoy, Bill

Makes sure you stay at the Ironhorse Lodge. At Tellico Plains at the end of the skyway take hwy 68 Tn to hwy 60 Ga all the way to Suches Ga and stop at Two Wheels of Suches. Hwy 209 out of Waynesville to Hot Springs is good as well as 208 and 212. Stay off of 441 and Gatlinburg

On the wrong days (I don't know which ones those are) Boone is as bad as Gatlinburg... Me and Punisher and Fred and Ginger went through there on the way back from last year's meet-in-the-middle I think... bleghhh... -Mike

I run tours in that area. First I'd recommend staying at the Ironhorse Lodge a great motorcycle destination. On roads I recommend hwy 28 from its intersection with 74 to its intersection with hwy 107 turn left go towards cashiers back to 74. I recommend hwy 209 where it starts at 74 to hwy 208 to Hwy 212 to hwy 25 south. Take Wayah Road from 19/74 to 64. If you need additional info call me at 770-686-1806 when you get in the area

Anybody going down (or up) Skyline and BRP should print this out and take it with them. There are only a couple of gas stations actually visible from the road, and if you just wing it, gas can be just over the hill or 30 miles away, depending on which exit you take. You always get fantastic gas mileage on BRP, but you still won't make it on one tank. http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/v.php?pg=50MP = Mile posts, there's one every mile on BRP, but they are old, small/short, hard to see and easy to miss.
