Went to honda a few weeks ago. Ordered some 1 peice rear wheel dampers for an 03. They said back ordered untill 5/28 called today to see if they are in and was told back ordered until 6/12. Anybody picked some up in the last couple weeks? Are they backorder everywhere?

When we were kids we'd add RTV in to supplement our worn out dampers. It kept our 100 and 185 wheels from tearing themselves up, don't know if RTV enhancement would last long on big boys bikes though... -Mike

This is very slowly happening with many of our old bike parts (like Ujoints).
If you want to check if they are out everywhere, try ordering somewhere else. If they have the 2-part (more expensive) dampeners still in stock (did you ask?), maybe get those.
But stay on the list you're on (or get on two). When the Ujoints went dry, Honda backed off their hoped-for delivery dates many times. And I'm sure the lists everywhere got longer.
Besides RTV, depending on how bad they are, you could try poking strips of rubber or tire repair (stringy snakey ones) or like materials in there. In the mean time take it easy on the throttle, and brakes.

Might be a wise idea to put a sticky post at the top of the forum with a list of what spares we need to keep on hand for these bikes.
Dampers, petcock rebuild kits, valve stem holders, carb floats/diaphragms...all the little things which CAN go wrong and which can be used to fill out a parts order to qualify for free shipping.
Many years ago - when we were first a couple - Blondie bought a spare U-joint and a couple other must-haves for me for our bikes. I still have that stuff tucked away 'just in case' and it'll leave when the last of the Valkyries does. But since I plan to ride them until I can't, I ought to source more common wear item spares instead of waiting for them to fail.

I've been riding Valkyries (I have 3) for 14 years and have experienced loose dampers but have never replaced one. I have some hard rubber gasket material about 3/16 thick and just cut pieces the same size as the cross section of the damper and put on the decal or coast (counter clockwise) side of the damper to take up the slack. If they loosen up again, put in another piece. No glue required. I realize not everyone has gasket material lying around but I believe a piece of used tire sidewall would do as good or better, it's certainly durable enough.

I received mine yesterday 6/1 ordered them Monday 5/29 from Everett Powersports. They are listed on ebay under valkyrie parts or just go directly to their website Everett Powersports.com. $35+ $7 shipping. They are located in Everett Washington I'm in Florida so I was surprised how fast I received them

Just a thought.. Might be that high speed heavy haulin being a contributing factor again "Operation outside of design parameters". I've had to change one set of these. My original Tourer ('00) started getting a little loose in the rear end at ~30k so I threw a set of Bruor's 2nd-generation dampers in the wheel and AFAIK it's been fine ever since.

They were used and the lesser of 2 evils at that point and thought they may last a while longer but its time for service and i have felt the slop in them for a while now. Also if valkyries weren't meant to tow boats at triple digit speeds there would be a warning in the operators manual so that's not the reason I break things lol

My little paranoid head ordered a set even though I replaced them only 5,000 miles ago.

Hi Mark... If your shifter seal is leaking, you might want to lie down on your back and look at the underneath of your motor... mine was coated in thick half dried oil, I spent a while down there with a tooth brush and WD40... -Mike

Read Daniel's write up on the seal not Chet's on the ujoint. I've done the final drive a few times but never pulled the u-joint to inspect and lube. Guess it's time thanks for the reminder Britman

Unfortunately, there's no way to effectively lube the Ujoint, other than spraying something on it, that will not last. And that can be done through the right side cover, and pulling the boot back from the trans side (but not off the swingarm, which is the hard side to get back on). It has no zerk grease fitting like most Ujoints have for good internal lubrication.
Besides wearing out from use and heavy torque, I think most Ujoint failure comes from water exposure... thus the importance of a good boot, fitted correctly.
