I would like to see if the wider Valk wheel can be shoved into my Wing.
Does the Valk use the 5 pin , slpined drive hub?
If anyone has has a spare rear wheel and could measure the rim width and outside to outside of the wheel bearings. With that info I could decide if I want to pursue buying a wheel for this experiment to get a little more tread on the pavement .  Thanks

If you're talking about installing the Valk wheels on an older Wing like I have, it's quite involved. I had a set of Valk wheels given me for just that and tossed the idea because of that. For starters, the Valk does have the 5-fingered drive but the splines do mesh with the Wing final. I have a spare Valk final but the four mounting bolts don't match the Wing swingarm tube. You do have to use the Valk black outer plastic dust cover due to its width. Next, the hub of the Valk wheel is wider, necessitating some major mods either to the frame to accommodate the Valk swingarm or to the Wing swing arm to accommodate the wider Valk hub. The difference is about the width of the Wing swingarm on the left side.  I was tossing around the idea of buying a second Wing s/a, cutting off the rear end of the left side about halfway back, than mounting/welding it to the outside of the existing Wing s/a. Once in place and found to be solid, cut off the inner portion from the existing s/a. Problem with that, you have a big issue with alignment of the axle holes left to right.

The other possibility would be to use a Valk s/a, no problem getting the arm swivel to mount in the frame re. bearings, etc. The problem is the width of the Valk s/a. To make it fit you need to either section the Valk s/a to fit in the Wing frame or cut the frame cross members to spread it. If you cut the Valk s/a then it's too narrow for the Valk wheel so you're back to stage one. If you cut the frame cross members to spread the Wing frame to accommodate the Valk s/a, now you have a problem with a number of issues....engine mounting for starters. Then once all that is corrected, I found the axle didn't seem to line up properly, and the size of the wheel itself once the tire was mounted. Now assume you overcome all the issues I've listed, you then have to fab a rear brake mount.

I finally dropped the idea altogether, too much work and $$ for very little reward. Strangely enough, the front wheel fit fairly well but you couldn't use the Wing forks or triple trees. Reason....the Wing trees aren't wide enough and the forks won't fit the Valk triple trees. In the end, I sent the gifted wheels back to my friend and refinished the Wing wheels after mounting some new rubber. FWIW, I stuffed the Valk wheels in place just for looks....they aren't a good look at all. In general, the wheels are physically too large for the size of bike you have in the older Wing. Looks like a small frame on extra large wheels and just simply looks weird.

This is all my experience, draw from it what you like. Good luck!  cooldude

Nick, ask me what time it is and I'll tell you how to make a watch. It drives my wife crazy sometimes so I tell her if you don't want the answer....don't ask.  Wink

As for the wheel question, I just figured if he knew all the problems involved in detail it would help him make a better decision.

Thanks John , for your reply . I knew the rim was wider at the tire bead and also the wider swing arm. The part I did not know is the hub . Was hoping the width was adjusted with spacers .
The 1500 Goldwing rim is 3" wide IIRC . I just wanted a little more there . I am planning to mount a 195/55-16. It will fit . I just wanted more . LOL dont we always ?  So I suppose I'll shelve this wheel idea till I have time for the next idea  Wink
