...on a Rush exhaust for a Goldwing. The guy bought it a couple of months ago and put it on his wing and then decided to trike his bike. The exhaust didn't fit, so he put it on ebay. I just happen to see them while looking for something else and he had a make an offer option. I put $100 and he accepted it right away. The pipes are chrome and are in like new condition. I did want black ones, but for that price I will put them on my bike and try them. If I don't like the sound then I will sell them. If I like them, then I will paint them black with the same process I was going to do my OEM pipes. I love it when I can scoop up a deal like that. These ones have a 2.25" baffle. You can also get 2" and 2.5" baffles that will pop right in and an assortment of tips for these pipes to get the look and sound you want.

The mounts on the pipes are about 5" farther down the pipe. This is not an issue for me because I have the saddlebag brackets that I can use for the exhaust mounts. The pipes are about 7" longer than our OEM pipes, so they will stick past the rear fender, but that is what I am looking for. When I get the pipes I will post a picture with them on and my opinion of the sound.

Nice find hope they fit well  I just scored a rear end for 75.00, it was a trike take off and it had no miles on it literally brand new.

You can look for a used cheap set of drag pipes, Goldwing guys try them and remove for too loud. You can cut them short and insert a baffle in each of the 6 outlets. Check the inside diameter, usually it is 1 3/4" or 2". should be able to find new 12" baffles for under 10 bucks. For myself, I already have 50%+ hearing loss in both ears, hearing aids suck but are a must. This came from drag pipes, shootin, big trucks and heavy equipment.

Nope, I am going to put them on as is to see if I like the sound. If they drone, hopefully it won't be worst than the OEM pipes.  If I like the sound and they drone badly, then I will look into the torque loops. Not sure how much they are though.

Brian, I believe that there might be baffling affecting the tone and the loop also creating back pressure. The extra length of the exhaust also slows and dissipates the frequency which lowers the pitch. I hope this makes sense! ??? I would imagine that you would have to buy a pair and cut them open to discover their secret. Unless Jimmy is willing to divulge that info, more than likely NOT!

I now remember that you put them on awhile back. Well, I still believe that the extra length afforded the pipes with the loops are responsible for the reduction or elimination of drone along with the lower intonation. The stated increase in HP and torque is a plus. What say you, Jimmy?

I finally went over to the US and got my pipes. They look good, but I will have to cut down the tips a couple of inches so that they don't stick out too far behind the bike. The pipes themselves could easily be cut down themselves because there is about 3-4" of empty pipe after the baffles. I will run it as is to see if I like the sound and if it sounds good then it is modification time. I may get the torq loopz this winter if there is a lot of drone from them. I spent too much money already this spring and I still have a few bike trips yet this summer that I have to save for. I will put them on Saturday and post a pic of the bike with them on.

I got the pipes put on today and my wife and I went for a ride to the town of Prescott by the St. Lawrence river to check out the sound. The pipes are definitely louder than stock and have a really good sound to them. The sound during acceleration is fantastic. The bike sounds like a Ferrari when accelerating hard and are at their loudest a that point. I almost need ear plugs.  I did have a little drone at higher speeds @ around 75mph, but below that they were pretty good. I am on the fence about the length. They stick out past the saddlebags by about 4". The exhaust tips are 3" long and they could be cut down 2.5" which I think would look better. I would have to bring them to a machinist to get that done. Although, I had bought a set of 4" tips a long time ago for my Interstate and maybe I can find a shorter set of tips for it. The weird thing when I put on these pipes is that one side looked longer than the other. I measured both pipes and they were both 31" long. I think the ends coming off the cat are not the same length on each side. I was able to line them up and they look good now. Now that I have these pipes on I am thinking that I need to lower my saddlebags. There is about 4" from the top of the pipes to the bottom of the bags. They look funny to me now. I think I may lower them 2". Here is a pic of the bike and my wife at the St Lawrence river this evening.

The deal with pipes longer than the bike (past the end of the tire) is that they will definitely drag leaving aprons (short driveways) that connect gas stations (or other) and roads. Especially when you begin your turn onto the road while still on the apron. My 18" Air Flow tips on the 1500 are only about 1 1/2" past my bags, and I have nicked them a couple times. I won't slow down for exhaust tips either (and wouldn't want to have to do it as a matter of course).
The other thing you have to watch out for is backing down on curbs to park. All curbs are not of equal height (all road crowns aren't of equal height either; ie, if the crown is taller, your back end will be lower, backing in). And I've carefully watched to see I have clearance on both sides, backed straight in clearing both pipes over the curb, only to put the bike over on the stand, and laid the bike weight on my low side tip right on the curb. The upside is the scuffs only show if you physically lay down and look underneath. My scuffs are right at 6 o'clock.
The bags would look better lower, but if it's a big job to do it, the heck with it. Looking at it another way, you now have access to eyeball, inspect and reach in to clean your pumpkin and brakes (and change your rear end dope), but if you lower the bags, you won't without pulling it/them off. If you do lower, remember you have no heat shields under there, so you still need some standoff for heat (going down 2 of 4 inches sounds about right).

Hi Jess,
I remember you mentioning this a little while ago about the scrapes. The tips are 3" long and I am really thinking on cutting them down. I just need to find a machinist.
Lowering the saddlebags is not a big job, It will just have to wait until I get a free weekend to do it. I do have heat shields under each bag, so I am not too worried about the heat from the pipes.

Goldstar, The pipes are not double walled. They are made from 16 ga. steel. Hungryeye, I thought about cutting it with the chop saw, but I am afraid that the aluminum will clog up the cutting wheel. When ever I try to save money that way it usually costs me more money in the long run.

Those are some pretty long pipes.  As you are all aware, I consider my Valkyrie to be a roadster. As I have been working at styling issues I have been very wary of this:  Oh, fiddle. I meant to post an image of a GL1800. But the Cadillac will do. Back to the point - I really enjoyed my high school girlfriend's '56 Fleetwood. But I would encourage you to "style" carefully, Brian. Those long pipes can get you in a heap of trouble (if you get my drift). Bill

Well Bill, the length of the pipes were bugging me all day. So much so, that I decided to cut down the tips 2.5". I took Hungryeye's advice and went for it. The result was perfect. I used my metal bandsaw to do the deed. I checked to make sure that it was true before I cut the ends. I took it slow, to make sure that the blade didn't wander. After I cut them, all that was needed was a little sanding of the edges to make sure they were no longer sharp. I find the shorter version much more appealing to me. Now, it only sticks past the saddlebags by 2" instead of 4.5". New version  Old version

I decided to order a set of Torq Loopz for my bike from Value Accessories. They don't look that hard to install and look like it will take a few hours to do. The video that Value Accessories shows with the Torq Loopz and the same pipes I have, sealed the deal. I just love the sound of the exhaust. Now, I just need to find time to put them on when they come in.
