Is there such a thing that mounts on the inner dash grille that will allow you to divert the incoming air differently? Seems there might be a couple of benefits...

1- diverting the air towards driver for more air flow
2 - diverting the air upward to help push the flow up over drivers head thereby reducing buffeting

I've done some searching and cant seem to find anything. Surely someone else has thought of this and possibly tried it. Wonder if this would work...?

Try one of these, they are adjustable.

Get one of those shower loofahs. The thing that looks like a big wad of fine netting.
Won't need the whole thing but you can. I take them apart and use a strip, fold it up and push it into the vent. It stops the bugs, it stops the whistling, it allows the air to continue to pass through. Works great. Cost a dollar at wally world or any dollar store. Comes in a variety of colors in case you want to make a statement.

It works really well. Stays in the vent all by itself. Easy to take out and clean. Or replace.

Ditto the bug eating.  I've had bugs shoot down my gullet so fast, there's no time to spit.

Well crap, I wonder what brand bug that was?

Also note that while riding in rain, the vent blows water UP the inside of the shield (though I realize there are other vortices at work). And helps in getting rid of fog on the inside too.

I had the OE IS shields for many years with the Honda aftermarket side wings on hinges (two per side).  These worked very nicely like the good old car vent windows, so you could fold them forward and blow air right in your face.  Only problem was that no matter how tight you secured the hinges, at higher speeds, they would not stay open.  This is why I held on to my original shields for so long, until replaced with Clearviews (wider than stock, and the wings are gone).

The better solution is to get a shield an inch or two shorter than stock (depending on your height).

Now you guys are talking. I like all of those ideas for 1 reason or another. Jess, I ordered a Clearview 13" yesterday as a matter of fact. Figured that was 1st step for sure. After 2 days of riding in rain on recent trip to the Dragon, that was a must! I like the goldwing vent design. Looks a little bulky but, wonder if it would fit up on my i/s...

My current shield is (what I think to be) from Show Chrome and 4" wider on each side and about 2" taller than stock. Massive really. Great at highway speeds as there is no buffeting but, I hate looking through it. Hoping I'm gonna dig the CV. Got the light gray tint too. Hope that cures the gas cap glare that hits me right at eye level on shield!!

If your shield is in good condition, it's easy to cut it shorter.

Its in great shape actually. I'm just not 100% on the best height. I'm also trying to defeat the gas cap glare (with tint). CV offers a generous return policy so, we'll see how this goes. Cutting may be a great option.

Thanks!

If you ordered the windshield to defeat glare with tint go ahead and send it back.  The only way to get rid of the glare is to get rid of the windshield or cover the gas cap.  I originally powder-coated mine black but eventually put covers over both of them.

Neither bike has any gas cap glare now.

All cap glare is not equal.  There are variables of your own height and angle of the sun to your ride.

One of my bikes has the cap cover bib (exactly like the 2d pic), but the other doesn't and the glare does not often bother me (but sometimes it does).  I wear polarized glasses which helps.  I also think the OE (or any) polycarbinate shield (with coating) has a bit more glare than Clearview's (or anybody's) lucite plastic shield.  I have Clearview plastic on both my interstates now (the OE's were to the point of losing coating and internal spiderwebbing/streaking; which could make the glare bad in certain conditions, rain and oncoming headlights being the worst of them).

Clearview's return policy is pretty clear, once you pull the protective sheet of plastic film off it, it's yours (and no return after that, unless you claim a defect).  So you need to check for glare or correct height while riding with the plastic film on.  Clearview also makes shields for interstate with a vent option, if you want it (I didn't).

https://www.clearviewshields.com/blog/clearview-shields-windshield-venting/

https://www.clearviewshields.com/blog/return-policy/

I'm 5'9" with a long body type and got a stock height Clearview (15.5") for my IS with bigboy (one inch higher than stock seat), and with one inch under stock (14.5) on my IS with lowboy seat (one inch under stock seat height).  Though this is all close enough I can switch seats (not shields) with a key turn.  I got both mine 5" wider than stock.  This basically replaced the Honda hinged wings I had that were attached to the sides of both of my OE shields before I pitched them.  I also wear a half helmet (only) year round, so I require a taller shield than some may like with fullface, though mine only come up to my chin/nose on both bikes, and I look over easily without sitting to attention (though I can get down behind them when I need to).

I like my tank bib OK (esp the built in ladies clutch purse on it), but I think I would take my cap off the other bike (with much nicer paint) and have it powder coated with a satin finish of some sort before sticking a bib on my other bike. That would be a pretty easy and cheap job, I think.

But I haven't had enough problem with glare on that bike to worry about it, with the Clearview.

Yeah, that custom cap cover is still a considered option. I talked with Clint and troutdude about them. I knew I needed to make a shield change so I started there. I wanted as few aftermarket accessories added as possible. Hate to cover up this great looking bike any more than necessary!!

I wish there was a more discreet diverter option than the one for the Goldwing. Maybe the shorter shield will prove to work well and it will be a moot point.

I think a 13" shield is going to give you all the air you want.  And again, depending on your height, the shorter shield may not glare as often as you are used to.

And here's another idea for hotter weather; you can always add a seat cushion, beads or sheep skin to the seat for a little taller stance.

And another idea;  this stuff they call a wrap would probably be cheap and easy for the gas cap.  And it can always be peeled off back to original.  Just don't use a high gloss.

Like in carbon fiber (I have black interstates) (which is most of them)

Ok, so I mounted the 13" Clearview. LOVE looking over the shield. BUT, over about 60mph = buffeting (full face helmet). Tried ducking a bit and the lower I get the less buffeting. Leaning towards the shield helps too. Obviously thats not gonna work.

Next thoughts/options:
1) Gustafson Euroflip like cutlassdude has. Their shield is 1" shorter than the Clearview. Wonder if the reverse curve will be enough to compensate AND help push air up a bit? More expensive but if its the fix, I'd be game.
2) Go to an open face helmet. When I open the shield on my current FF, the buffeting lessens. Have always run a FF for protection and dont really want to change.
3) Cutting my current shield. May e I'll start here... Any advice on how NOT to screw that up?!

Thanks!!

Note, I have not removed the film from Clearview so I can still return...
